Roy stop the negativity

Taking Wilf off was wrong , there was a goal or two there and a match to be won if you had kept Wilf on and brought on Loftus Cheek .

And if you are going to shut up shop , then at least counter their three big midfielders/ forwards they brought on - you had Tomkins , Fosu and Jairo on the bench . Again, we concede from a corner because the midfield is too small.

Three points or at least one unnecessarily lost today . For all the good play and hard work on the training field , it's also your job from the sidelines to affect play. I think he has only used three subs only once - a game we won...

Now a win against West Ham is essential

I don't think subbing Wilf was so bad - he's on his second game back and was trying to do everything today.

The lack of other subs was deeply concerning though. We were clearly knackered and he didn't do anything. I don't get it...

The Wilf sub was not the error, that was sensible management of a player still getting back to fitness.

The error was not in replacing Schlupp and possibly McArthur around the 65 minute mark.

Can't blame Hodgson in my opinion, we played well and were very deserving of a point. We craved a target man who could relieve the one dimensional threat we had in Zaha and Townsend. Newcastle knew once that was nullified we had nothing else.

Agree...but we won’t have a target man for some weeks. The Wilf header in front of us in the first half showed how we are desperate for Benteke, Wickham, Murray [insert player of your choice]. We are in desperate trouble.

We lost today because we have no fit striker remotely up to the level we need, and we don't have a keeper of Premiership standard (fit or otherwise) on the books. Both of those problems existed before Roy took over, and given that he arrived after the window closed, he couldn't (and still can't) do anything about them.

Even allowing for that, we probably still deserved a point, and under the circumstances I think progress is being made. Whether it's enough to keep us up is another matter, but I think we now have a manager who is close to reaching a point where he's getting the best out of what he has. Given where we were just a few weeks ago, that's no mean feat.

Disagree , had loftus been bursting from midfield to join Wilf and Andros I think we would have scored , midfield was late arriving .

Why would you not sub off Cabaye, Schlupp or Macca at any point after the hour mark? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I don't expect Wilf to be pleased. He is a competitive athlete after all. However, that doesn't make Roy wrong to safeguard him.

Funny as Wilf played 90 minutes last week and looked fine. I don't see how 10 minutes or so would have made a difference. You don't take off your only decent attacking player.

He was on his knees after 60 minutes last week and he waa being much more of a threat than he was today.

We still need to protect him from rebound injury which he is still at risk of.

Need to look at the match and how it developed , yes sure SP has handicapped us on the striker front but you have to find ways to win. The way to win today was getting an athletic midfielder to run into the box for Wilf and Andros to cross to on the ground. We have two Loftus Cheek and Jairo, plus Fosu-Mensah!

No evidence of that at all. It was a bad sub from Hodgson. And it cost us.

And we saw him in the 90th minute last week chase down Azpelacueta or however you spell his name. Didn't look too bad from where I was sitting.

It was a bizarre decision in the context of the game and our season to date. We handed them the initiative and it was inevitable they were going to score at the end.
