I don't see him wanting to uproot again given how close he is to his family, so my only worries would have been over other London clubs. It does feel like, with a full and proper preseason under Sam and a couple of clever signings, we could be in for a great season.
Spot on and Spurs won't pay the wages so that's a bonus. He simply has to be the highest earner.

The only player that could replicate what he can do is Yannick Bolaise. How strange that they were both here. He can turn a hopeless situation into a potential win with a moment of magic.

His improvement this season is huge. No longer the player who tries to beat 3 men, no longer the player who can not cross, pass or shoot. He can now see an early pass and delivers. He is able to cover defensive positions too.

From a one trick pony to an all round attacker who puts the fear of dread into every defender. He is not replaceable regardless of the transfer fee.

I loved watching Yala play but the one thing Wilf has over him is goals! Such a shame we couldn't have just kept both for many many years to come.

But then again it hasn't harmed them in keeping a fairly tight wage structure in recent years.

I do come back to the question is it right that a player should be paid double or even treble what his team mates are being paid.

Zaha was obviously didnt have parity with the rest of the star first team players on 35k a week (the same wage as reportably Campbell). This has brought him in line with out top earner Benteke, and I would argue Zaha is more important to the attacking part of the team than him. The wage structure will change as we sign more players this summer and every year we stay up as we will sign higher calibre players. I think you find the average of the team is more likey to to be 50k+ now. Not saying I agree with it but its a reality.

We are a club that potentially were 180 minutes from the Championship. I know there is a flood of new TV money coming our way but we do need some sort of wage structure in place. The wages quoted for Sako were always a big worry that we had lost the plot.
I think that was Wrighty's wider point - is any club, especially Palace going to start something that could mean revisiting every players contract every year - first of all it's a one way street and what is the point of a contract. SP#s response, was as ever' quick and logical and that it was more about making sure that players value is reflected when there is a significant leap forward.

I would agree that it is a slippery slope and when exactly did a player put his hand up and say' I'll take a bit less Guv because I am not really doing it for you'

Maybe not but Zaha got us almost single handidly through the playoffs and has improved season on season. He's our best player and that's a fact and dare i say it our biggest saleable asset. He's walked player of the year twice and has a phernominal work rate that often comes to light late in a game where he'd still going strong against knackered defenders. Brilliant player who should be rewarded accordingly.

In fairness, those goals have only really come this season. Zaha has never really scored enough until this season. However, he is now miles ahead of Yannick in terms of end product.

Why would you reward every player just because you've rewarded your best player, or in Wilf's case, your best player who was on an inferior deal compared to other, lesser performing players?

You look after your most valuable assets first and foremost, and the game of cat and mouse evens itself out eventually. It's a risky policy for players to rock the boat if they're not quite as indispensable as they think they are. Similarly, clubs have to be careful that they don't take existing players for granted if they're receiving less than their market value.

I think it's that the clubs' owners can use other companies that they own to sponsor the club for ridiculous amounts of cash.

Usually Middle Eastern owners with airlines as sponsors but also see Leicester with King Power and even Newcastle with Sports Direct.

Ashley just runs the company. Those other owners run thet bloody country. Nice way round financial controls.

I didn't mean literally every player at the club or even in the 25, but as much as I understand/share your indignation we have to realise that it isn't as easy as simply dealing with Wilf. If Wilf gets the size of 'his package' (ooh err missus) enhanced on a yearly basis (i.e. as it appears it has been since his return ) then Benteke, Cabaye, Townsend, Milivojevic, or more likely their agents ears prick up as key players (add or subtract to the list as you like) then the next batch down in terms of quality start to murmur and agitate. It's true that the further down the food chain they are the less leverage they have but equally replacing the lower level players with new ones from the market isn't cheaper. Equally keeping them unhappy on a lower contract can be a problem. So it is the very cat and mouse game you reference that I am on about that spreads. This isn't limited to football. Salary creep is a well known HR paranoia.

I am not arguing against offering the deal. I think it's a risk we have no choice to take but revisiting his contract as frequently as we seem to be doing makes things difficult across the board. TBH if Sakho comes in I think we likely have another problem looming there too.

TBH I am just glad we are worrying about these types of issues.

Every time any player anywhere gets a big money move or a pay increase, agent's ears will prick up. It's part of the game, and why strong leadership is important. Like I said, you pre emptively protect your best assets, and in the case of players like Bolasie, call their bluff to an extent.
