If a round is very close then two judges can easily and rightfully give the round to different fighters and since all three rounds were fairly even it's fairly resonable for one judge to side with one fighter for all 3 rounds, while another judge gives the same score the other way. Draw's are not easy in 3 round fights as it relies one of the judges scoring a round 10-10... there's a certain pressure put on judges to avoid scoring rounds 10-10 and to side with one of the fighters. Had the fight been judged over the whole fight then I'm sure a draw verdict would have been given but if you look into the context of the fight and the round scoring system the decision is not as horrible as it first appears.

The lineup for Prides shockwave new years eve show....
YOSHIDA HIDEHIKO FUJITA KAZUYUKI GOMI TAKANORI NAKAMURA KAZUHIRO MISAKI KAZUO GOUNO AKIHIRO KIKUTA SANAE AOKI SHINYA ISHIDA MITSUHIRO KAWAJIRI TATSUYA MINOWA IKUHISA SAKURAI MACH HAYATO MIRKO CROCOP JOSH BARNETT WANDERLEI SILVA ANTONIO RODRIGO NOGUEIRA MAURICIO SHOGUN DAN HENDERSON RICARDO ARONA GILBERT MELENDEZ DENIS KANG JOACHIM HANSEN I'd guess thats the most stacked card in MMA history by quite some way. Only matchup announced so far is Fedor vs Hunt, not sure if its for the title. |

Unless of course you mean predictions for the buy rate which call me a cynic but I dare say will be far more interesting than the match itself, here's hoping it's the first non-boxing PPV in history to top 1,000,000 in North America.

I'd seen rumours about this for a few days, personally I hope he stays with Pride for awhile longer as him verus Crocop and Barnett are the two matchs I'm most keen to see in the HW division.
Other Pride news from a few days ago is that they are scaping the Bushido shows moving all weight classes onto the the main shows. Each of the "number" shows will have a title fight and the GP will now rotate between weight classes over 4 years. I hope they go with a LW GP this year as there are far more fresh matchs than the other divisions... Gomi Ishida Sakurai Kawajiri Hansen Azeredo Melendez Aoki Aurelio The main problem I have with the round scoring system is that it seems to encourage people to fight for the scorecards rather than for the win. Sylvia/Monson was the perfect example IMHO as the former was content to keep the standup at arms lenght rather than look for the KO. |

Cro cop would destroy the UFC contenders. Cant see anyone that would stop him in their current lineup.

Have you heard the one about Hidetoshi Nakata been in training to fight with K1?
And 700,000 buys figure for Hughes vs BJ Penn is anywhere near accurate then things are very mental.

There was a piece in the Wrestling Observer a few weeks back that emphasised just how much things have changed... here's the quick summary of what Meltzer wrote.

Big news here in the US as UFC has bought out both WFA and WEC. WEC will be used as a minor league and testing ground for the big UFC shows. The value in the WFA purchase is the contracts they will be taking over, which include Rampage Jackson, Heath Herring, Matt Lindland and Ivan Salaverry. Have to wait and see how this shakes out, but it looks like the winner of Tito/Chuck has their next challenger and I imagine Herring will be dropped right in the mix after Vera/Sylvia.
