Anyone need a football fix get down to Imperial Fields tonight. Dulwich Hamlet's very first ever 'home' game in the National South

does it get any better than a 94th minute winner?

defensive howlers, phantom goals and a 94 minute winner to secure our first ever National South goals and points - what a night!

Decent start - 4 points from 4, including an entertaining draw on Monday night. Attendances are really starting to slip, which whilst understandable given our exile, is a concern as the directors could reasonably have expected higher gates.

Seems Palace weren't the only club treating Dulwich with contempt during pre-season, as Dulwich director Liam Hickey explained in recent programme notes;

Quote:
Whilst we only had one pre-season home game, I cannot let the behaviour of Charlton Athletic pass without comment. During the summer they tried to argue that they were no longer required to play the game, which was part of Jamie Mascoll’s transfer agreement, because the contract specified it would take place at our home stadium and we didn’t have a “home”.

Not content with this, they then advised just 5 days before the game that they were downgrading the fixture to send their Under 23 side, as their manager had changed his plans. As a result, I reminded them of their contractual obligations and they reluctantly sent the First Team. However, they made no attempt to promote the fixture and announced they would live stream it through their website. The live feed had been agreed but any announcement from them was embargoed until 30 minutes from kick off, not half a day.

I haven't been yet this season even though T&M is quicker for me to get to than Champion Hill. I went to most of the games at T&M last season. Maybe the school holidays affect the attendances.

It takes a while for the mind to adjust to being in a higher division instead of the last few years in the Ryman Premier when we won almost every week. It almost feels like mission achieved after the play off near misses. It's also sad that several players left in the summer (but for understandable reasons).

What's the plan for Dulwich (on the pitch)? Is it consolidate in the NL South, or do they want continued promotions in the short term?

Depends who you ask. Gavin Rose (the manager) and the players obviously want to continue pushing up the leagues. Gavin certainly has the ability to well higher up the leagues.

Many fans however would tell you otherwise. There is, for example, no drinking on the terraces permitted in the National League. And the further up you go, the higher the minimum mandated pay-on-the-door becomes. You also start to lose unsegregated terraces.

Just as there are sacrifices in moving from The championship to the Premier League, so are there sacrifices further down the pyramid. The important difference to remember however is that many, many non-league fans are drawn to places like Dulwich precisely because they reject the sanitizing and expensive nature of professional football and deeply value the community ethos. They are less likely to accept these changes as an intrinsic price worth paying, therefore.

I hope we can compete at this level and do very well but don't real want to go higher up the leagues as you start to lose the uniqueness of non-league football. I want to stand where I want, drink when I want, change ends at half time and talk to away fans!

Good point against Wealdstone then an amazing win away to the league leaders, and one of the favourites for promotion, Woking - hopefully this will give us the confidence and belief that we can complete at this level and move away from the relegation zone.

Any recommendations for good pubs near Imperial Fields? Twig beer, simple pub food, kid friendly, not Weatherspoons. Hoping to get to a game next February.

Pubs around ground are all shit. (I miss Dulwich) But the two bars in the ground are good and the club are trying to get guest beers most games. Had Southey's last home game who are excellent plus we need your cash! Please spend it at the game :-)

Tram is easy to get to the ground, Mitcham tram stop is very close, under 5 min walk.
So for Bromley train to Beckenham Junction and then tram to Mitcham would be easiest I think.

I'm in Beckenham and either drive (plenty of parking at ground and in side roads) or get tram from Elmers End, really easy.
