Moved to Bromley just a month or so ago, think I might take a wander over to the game on Saturday.

I would just like to say, as an avid Horsham follower, what a cracking start!

Jamie Taylor scored another hatrick, 2nd consecutive 4-1 win at home, We are a team whi expected to struggle this season, but we are 6 points ahead of target already. The team has always had potential. Taylor will be snapped up soon, possibly the best striker in non league.

Ramsgate went up as Ryman 1 south champions last year, we would have lost that last year but the team is maturing. I wish that our ground was up to scratch, then we'd be in the Conference south, unfortunately our low wage structure and the inability to progress whilst we have no ground is holding us back.

"Bromley 4 - 0 Slough Town - A brace from Tutu Henriques along with goals from Nic McDonnell and new signing, Gareth Williams ease Bromley to a comfortable victory over The Rebels. Meanwhile, the reserves won 2-1 at Erith Town with both goals coming from Adam Greenway"

Attendance 507. All in all a good game after the first scrappy 20 mins had passed. I recommend you have a look at the Bromley website for clips of the goals, the 3rd looked a cracker from where I was. Encouraging to see the average attendance has increased again this year.

Many happy teenage memories watching Bromley at Hayes Lane when Palace were away. Good to see they're doing well. More recently I've been a Leafe fan however. Having said that, now I've moved, maybe I'll try and find a local amatuer team to follow. I think Brentford have a side

Early doors but this surprises me. Can't fathom why if the league form is so bad then how can Mark Butler consign half his first-team to the reserves (who have a +26 goal difference after four matches)...

Still, if Toddy fancies it against Bromley next week then the fans should have something to cheer.

There's a couple of pics of Gareth Williams here for Bromley. Has he signed permanent? To view the link you have to Register or Login

Looks like a loan deal for Williams:

I was at Hayes Lane and can confirm that Gareth's goal was a corker; edge of the area curler in the far corner.
He looked lively and good in the air, but carrying a fair bit of extra weight which if I remember has been a problem for a while. Bromley away to Folkestone Invicta tonight if anyone lives that way.

Bromley 4 Slough Town 0 – League - 02/09/06

Bromley recorded a comfortable 4-0 victory over Slough at a blustery Hayes Lane on Saturday without ever really playing that well, which is testament to the quality of Mark Goldberg’s team this season.

After a slow start with Slough big solid defence containing Bromley and having some spells of possession The Ravens broke free of the shackles and Nic McDonnell nearly opened the scoring when he took the ball around Keeper Kieran Drake, but rolled his effort across the goal and wide. Bromley did take the lead on 29mins when a corner from the left beat everyone apart from Tutu Henriques who bundled the ball over the line with his chest. New signing Gareth Williams looked lively and the former Palace striker set up the second goal when his shot from a quick Barry Moore free kick was saved by Drake only for Henriques to pounce and notch his second on 42mins. Just before the break McDonnell was denied once again by Drake with Bromley looking very good for their lead.

The second half saw Bromley start on the front foot McDonnell set up Kirk Watts with some nice footwork on the bye line, but the wing wizard blazed over. Williams shot over from a free kick after a foul on Watts and he then set up McDonnell who headed straight at Drake. Bromley put the game beyond doubt on the hour mark when Williams curled a sublime effort in from 20yards out past a dumbstruck Rebels defence. The game slowed down for a while with neither side making any chances and Bromley made three substitutions bringing on Adrian Stone, Nathan Simpson and Lee Fieldwick, which seemed to liven things up again. McDonnell had another shot saved by Drake and Stone missed a great chance from the rebound taking too long to control the ball, but he soon made up for it when he played a great ball into McDonnell who crashed the ball in for 4-0 on 87mins. Watts set up McDonnell for one more chance just before the end but this time last seasons top scorer was wide of the target. The Ravens won’t have many easier afternoons this season, but it’s taking the opportunities that counts.

Bromley (3-5-2): Walker Corneille, Wood, O’Sullivan, Henriques, Duku, Watts, Adeniyi, Moore, McDonnell, Williams. Subs: Stone, Simpson, Fieldwick, Drewett, Tiesse.

Folkestone Invicta 0 Bromley 0 – League - 04/09/06
Bromley came away from their Monday night trip to the Kent Coast with a point after a frustrating evening in front of goal against a solid and physical Folkestone side.
The game started with a chance at either end former Bromley striker Ellis Remy volleyed over for Invicta while Gareth Williams had a shot blocked for The Ravens. Bromley managed to dominate possession from that point and put the home side under sustained pressure, Peter Adeniyi and Kirk Watts combined to set up Nic McDonnell whose header was saved by Tony Kessell. McDonnell had another header saved, Watts shot wide and Williams had a deflected shot saved by Kessell.

Sam wood caused Folkestone trouble all night down the left and set created a great chance for McDonnell who blasted over from 12yards. McDonnell was too high with his next effort after a great ball from Donal O’Sullivan, while just before the break James Evritt brought out a great save from Andy Walker at the other end, but the half came with the score still 0-0.

The second half saw Bromley doing most of the pressing again, but Invicta looked dangerous on the break and from the occasional long throw into the box. Mark Goldberg switched to a 4-4-2 formation to increase the threat from Sam Wood and try and get good balls into the box. Watts had a deflected shot saved and from the corner McDonnell was denied by Kessell.

Folkestone then had their best spell of the game, sub Lee Fieldwick making a brave saving header from one attack and they broke up Bromley’s passing moves and out muscled them in midfield. The Ravens got themselves together to launch one more sustained assault on the home goal, Watts had a shot parried by Kesell who was able to smother sub Adrian Stone’s shot on the rebound. Walker made a fine save from Matt Carruthers when Invicta broke away while Bobby Bowry lay injured.

Watts set up McDonnell only for Kessell to save again and the custodian made another stop from Wood soon after. From the corner O’Sullivan headed against the post and the ball was eventually hacked away. Wood blazed over the final Bromley chance of the game before Folkestone had a late spell of pressure which Bromley’s defence held up well to and the game came to an end with no goals scored at either end.

In the end this may well be a point gained for Bromley, but it felt like two dropped at full time.

Quote for the game, ‘It’s not gonna happen tonight.’ – Mikey.

Bromley (3-5-2): Walker Corneille, Wood, O’Sullivan, Henriques, Duku, Watts, Adeniyi, Bowry, McDonnell, Williams. Subs: Stone, Simpson, Fieldwick, Greenway, Smith.

Well the spell at the top of the league lasted for less than 24 hours but never mind. Still haven't lost this season and only let 3 goals in.

For those not going to Luton. Bromley at Home Saturday, expect a half decent turnout as Palace and Charlton are both away.

Bromley vs Ashford Town (MSX)
Saturday 9th September - 3pm KO
Hayes Lane

Good luck to Gareth at Bromley. Hope he finds his scoring touch again.

For reasons I won't go into here, i took in Staines Town v Tonbridge Angels the other day.

Although Tonbridge lost, I thought they looked a fair side and had no luck in front of goal. Stianes also looked useful and ran out 2-0 winners and a decent forward might see them put their poor start behind them (inclusing a 2-1 defeat to Bromley)

Point being, both sides look better than what I have seen of Bromley, which leads me to think the early form may just be a flash in the pan.
