John Motson retires at the end of this season. Heard his very last commentary will be for Match of the Day at....Selhurst Park. Palace v WBA.
Hopefully not going out on a very dramatic note.

His last live commentary at the weekend was something of a car crash I'm afraid. Never been a fan to be honest but I wish him a long and happy retirement. Always felt the great Brian Moore was given a bit of a bum hand by the gods when he keeled over only a couple of years into his retirement

He was wandering around Cheltenham Racecourse yesterday in his sheepskin. Almost begging to be recognised wearing that.

Certainly think he should've hung up his microphone a couple of years ago but you can't fault the man's passion. He's a football legend.
Agree Brian Moore was brilliant. Loved his commentary in the '98 World Cup, even if he did throw Kevin Keegan under the bus.

should have been put out to pasture years ago, him and Coleman were the very worst football commentators, typical with the Beeb and their useless commitment to sport. Hugh Johns , Moore,Gubba, Sinsdat,Gerry Harrison were far far superior and the king Barry Davies.

Motson. Made a career out of a sheepskin coat and being a boring commentator. No humour, no interesting anecdotes, no charisma. Just an ability to talk no-stop for 90 minutes and know plenty of stats.
Nearly every other commentator was better than him even that perv Stuart Hall. Coleman I liked due to is mistake-ridden over-excitement. |

Interesting to see comments on these commentators, Motson though was reasonably neutral except against spurs, irritated beyond belief when he did that silly giggle/chuckle .
I preferred Barry Davies from the BBC. Brian Moore was good except that he shouted. One that I cannot abide is Parry. quotes facts that we all know and is the king of repetition. Last edited by Harry Bassett; 14-03-2018 at 02:34 PM. |

Can not wait for this dinosaur to retire and take his boring stats and his annoying chuckle away from us.

Met him at Selhurst Park once, he was bloody rude. Good riddance.

I've no desire for him to die. Seems a bit over the top to wish death on a football commentator. He is, however, over the hill. And a bit of a dirty old letch by all accounts.
