Nice pics. Actually always quite liked HSV. Decent enough fans and they despise St Pauli, which I'm always up for. However I have to disagree with the sentiment on the 5th pic. VfB Lubeck are clearly Die Nummer 1 im Norden!

From a German football Blog To view the link you have to Register or Login
"The 36 clubs of the DFL (who officially run the Bundesliga and 2.Liga) have sided with their fans and overwhelmingly voted to keep the current financial control rules in place. Basically, this prevents anyone from having more than 50% of the ownership of a club. This prevents robber barons from buying up clubs like in England. Originally, all German clubs were just extensions of a general sports club, so the membership was the only method of controlling the club. This is still generally the case, although many of the bigger clubs have spun off their professional squad into a seperate entity, and in some cases (like Dortmund) floated shares on the stockmarket. However, the members still basically call the shots due to this "50+1" rule. Some clubs, most notably Hannover 96 and it's president Martin Kind, wanted to abolish this rule so German soccer fans could be raped like their counterparts in England. The argument was that more money would mean that the German clubs would be able to compete better in Europe, presumably because they too could find sugardaddies or get swallowed up by corporations. Hundreds of thousands of fans signed petitions opposing this sellout, and the clubs overwhelmingly agreed, defeating the proposal and even some compromises. So while one could hardly argue that the soul of German football is pure, at least in it's essence, the game still belongs to the fans in Germany. That's certainly more than you can say of the other major countries." Good for them...

I'm going to see Kaiserslautern against Bielefeld tonight. I'm hoping it's a good choice for my first German match as they are only 2 points apart at the top of the 2.Bundesliga.

It was a good game and ended 1-0 to Kaiserslautern. The atmosphere was fantastic throughout and 46000 for a midweek game in the second tier can't be bad. I was surprised that only roughly 200 of the 46000 was made up of away fans though. To view the link you have to Register or Login |

I think it's about time we gave this thread a serious push... Over the last year or two I've really lost interest in La Liga and Serie A but got really into the Bundesliga... It's a great competitive league where pretty much anyone has a chance of beating anyone else. Also it's nice not to see Bayern Munich top of the league, although their grip has been failing the last couple of season. As I've mentioned before I'm a Leverkusen fan and I know there's a few others of us on the BBS who look out for German teams.
This weekends fixtures are as follows: Tonight's Game: Borussia Dortmund vs Hamburg Saturday's Games: Werder Bremen vs Eintracht Frankfurt Wolfsburg vs Schalke FC Koln vs Borussia M'gladbach Kaiserslautern vs Stuttgart St. Pauli vs Bayer Leverkusen Mainz vs Hannover 96 Sunday's Games: Hoffenheim vs Freiburg FC Bayern vs FC Nurnberg

I really enjoyed this week's highlights - there really is lots going on at the moment.
Schalke's league position is shocking considering the outlay they've had on players. Wolfsburg aren't exactly have much fun with Steve McLaren - they love to go a few goals ahead only to then sit back and concede. |

Watched a few of the highlights... Love the Bundesliga website... It's so good. We got lucky against St. Pauli I have to be honest. They hit the post twice, and Renato Augusto's goal was a simple tap in.
I don't think many would have predicted Dortmund top with Schalke struggling in the bottom 3 at the start of the season. German football has gone back up to the level I remember when I used to be into it in the early to mid ninties. The missus is getting me a Bayer Leverkusen Home shirt for Xmas! Expensive though as they only sell them in this country on Import from Germany.
