Hughes took Stoke to three 9th-place finishes in a row before things went stale.

Doesn't seem a very ambitious appointment but I think he suits them quite well and will do ok there.

Depends if he still has it. Pardew has shown he hasn't.

Wow the commentators are really bigging up Southampton having made the FA Cup semi final. They managed to just, and it was only just beat a League one side with their full strength 1st team playing.

Really can't see the Saints dealing with the fixture congestion. Their best hope is to play the kids for the Cup, and batter Leicester.

I asked this somewhere else but has any manager managed two sides in the same season who got relegated?
Hughes could do it

I read somewhere that during the spell in which Chelsea scored three (70th to 80th minute), Southampton only completed eight successful passes, that's shocking even by some of our standards in the past

Dave Bassett in the eighties. Though I think one was Divison One and one Division Two

I'm just realising this too. Their schedule is hectic. I don't think they're gonna be able to put a consistent run together through that lot.

If Hughes had a few more games I think he would keep them up to be honest

i watched a bit of the Southampton Chelsea game ...winning 1-0 and by the time we arrived at the next pub it was 2-2 and all Chelsea....Southampton looked as though they were up for the fight...it'll be interesting on Thursday,Puel should want to win badly again and he's still under pressure from some of our fans some who hav'nt took to him because of tinkering with the team and seemingly holding back some of our tallented players with his tactics.

Unconfirmed reports of players fighting in our dressing room after the game at Burnley....i hav'nt a clue whether its true but expect a Leicester backlash after the home loss to Newcastle and defeat at Burnley.....we hammered Southampton at theirs earlier this season 4-1 and i'm sure Puel will want something similar.

I don't think they will go down to be honest anyway. Would prefer Swansea personally. A great triumph would be Swansea relegated and Cardiff finishing 3rd and not winning the play offs.
Unfortunately with their games left I think Huddersfield are in real danger though.

Lads at work think the game they have got them to win (assuming Huddersfield don’t get any further points) is Everton.
If so, by the time they play Swansea they will be above Swansea and / or Huddersfield (I think)
