Hull City have just announced that Ryan Mason has had to retire with immediate effect.
Poor guy. Wish him well. |

The lad nearly died in January 2017. He's now recovered and simply cannot play football in case of another similar knock in the same place.
I don't see this as sad, a bit disappointing maybe, but blimey, it's fantastic he's alive and well. You'd think his earnings to date would be sufficient to give him the choices for the rest of his life that most people only dream of. Enjoy the rest of the life you nearly lost Ryan.

Hopefully there’s insurance in place to help him too as while he’s on a huge wage he’ll have spent fair bit too I’d imagine. Glad he’s recovered and good luck to the lad . Hopefully he’ll have a tv/radio career ahead of him now as it would be refreshing to have a young recent player give his views rather than dinosaurs like shearer and keown etc.

Sounds like he might have slight bruising on the brain. The Brain is an amazing thing - but it cannot repair itself.

I think it is a despicable challenge from Cahill, which has cost the player untold pain and misery and ultimately ended his career.
Mason jumps upwards and heads the ball entirely legally, then Cahill comes piling in, makes a dangerous and rash motion with a craned head, is late, and completely misses the ball and smashes this poor lads skull. Wanker. |

the Spurs assistant coach said his goal vs Forest was when it changed for all of them (the coaching team). It was his first touch after coming on as a sub and he scored from 25 yards. There's an article in the Independent today about how that game showed Pochettino/Perez and the others that their methods would work if the players took it on board like Mason had when he came on. Hopefully the club will do something to help him with the next step.
