its imperative they scrap replays in the FA Cup and two legs for The League Cup s/f, utter madness and all extra time in those competitions, no need for it.

January is dull enough without them taking football away from us.

I think this is the first stage in a long term plan to reduce the size of the Premier League.
The managers will still moan and moan about fixture congestion once the winter break comes in. They will then reduce the size of the league to ease the self made fixture congestion and the remaining teams will get even more tv money. |

Just play some midweek games in august, september and october. We have 3 matches a month for the first 3 months when the pitches are good. Its beyond stupid.

Space the games out better over the season. That early International Break is a bit silly when the season has barely started. |

Think back to our League Cup run under Dougie to the semi finals. That was probably one of the few good things that came out of an otherwise pretty mediocre season. Take that away and our season was pretty much over by mid November. Also it's a great opportunity to start blooding young players and getting them to mix in competitive games alongside first teamers. Take that away and that's another roadblock in the way of developing good young players. I'd be loathe to lose the league cup. |

But would our league season have gone downhill so rapidly if we hadn't been concentrating on the League Cup?

I think it is possible to make everybody happy.
Run five fixtures a weekend for a month. Ten clubs involved for the first two weekends and the other ten clubs for the second two weekends. Clubs can then give the staff the time off for the two weeks they are not playing... All the fixtures could be televised, which would keep the paymasters happy. |

We have a winter break after th Everton game. Good for me as I am going to Peru and I am back the day before Spurs, so don't miss a game.

Why don't the Premier League increase the allowed squad size to 25. That way, the clubs can rotate their squads accordingly.

I don't mind the idea of it, but in Germany they feel their winter break lasts too long. So the Premier League would have to make sure its the right length, or you'd end up needing another round of friendlies before re-starting the season.

League Cup is one of our 2 chances a season to actually win something, I'd be loath to scrap it.
FA Cup replays can do one. Who honestly wants to watch the "same game" again just 10 days after the first failure at finding a winner. Just get the game over with in one go. The blank weekends for Rounds 4 and 5 are rather shit also. Teams like us and Arsenal (they just came to mind) who went out in R3 have empty weekends which could be used instead of having a couple of midweek league games Ditching the 2 leg League Cup semi finals would also be good, play them as one offs at proper neutral grounds (not Wembley)

The problem of fixtures is caused by the Champions League being extended to four possibly 5 clubs beimg involved and UEFA spreading the fixtures in some rounds over 4 weeks instead of 2.
Without the extra European nights there would be no problem |

They aren't going to scrap it, the discussion is about getting rid of 2 legged semi finals - which actually would help the smaller teams

It makes more sense as PL clubs don't give a f*ck about it anyway.

It started to go downhill after our exit, not before. That was the annoying season where we were still in with a shout of the play-offs with 10 games to go, but Dougie kept saying again and again that we wouldn't make it

I like the League Cup. It gives us a genuine chance of actually winning a trophy.

Sure generally we do worse in the League Cup than the FA Cup.
