What really hit home from that documentary was the effect that lost these little boys their childhoods and how it haunts them now and until they die and their families. Not including the 4 that took their own lives and the effect on their families too.
Still, it's all ended up well. Bennell still gets to live.

Gradi turns up again here and about a fella whom my aunt knew and tried to get me a trial with when aged 10-ish. She failed thank fvck.
On 29 November 2016, Chelsea announced it was investigating allegations of historical sexual abuse in the 1970s, including a secret payment to a former player who had accused the club’s ex-chief scout Eddie Heath of child sexual abuse. On 2 December, the former player was named as Gary Johnson, who said he was paid £50,000 not to go public with allegations that he was sexually abused by Heath;the following day, Chelsea apologised "profusely" to Johnson, who later demanded further financial compensation from the club.[84] Also on 3 December, The Independent reported an allegation from another Chelsea youth player (on 18 December named as Eamonn Manners)that Dario Gradi, then Chelsea's assistant manager, visited the player's family's home to "smooth over" a complaint of sexual assault against Heath in 1974;Gradi was among the first to be targeted by the FA's enquiry, and, in connection with these allegations, on 11 December 2016, the FA announced that it had suspended Gradi (Gradi subsequently said he had been notified by the FA of his interim suspension from football on 25 November, and reiterated "that I will do everything within my power to assist all investigatory authorities"). Former Chelsea youth goalkeeper Derek Richardson became the third player to allege abuse by Heath.[92] I mean...Chelsea? What was she thinking? Last edited by Am Phibian; 16-02-2018 at 10:31 PM. |

Lucky escape and that prick managed us in 81. Thanks his they’re crb checks and safeguarding policies now. Protects youngsters from the likes of people like an infamous or teacher we both knew who had a trainer could zebedee. Always remember him making a comment about you when you were about 12/13 thinking it weird at the time, but totally inappropriate thinking about it now. How easy was it for people like that back then aided and abetted by those in charge.

When you read the stories about Bennell, it is entirely implausible that the grown ups working around him could have been ignorant of what was going on; and in fact there is clear evidence that staff at opposing teams (for example Alex Ferguson, who would not have the man on his club’s premises) were aware at least of rumours. How could they not be? And how could Gradi and Crewe staff not be?

There was an interview on the radio with an Al Jazeera journalist who said that it was well known in the North West what was happening and that Bennell was accused in person non stop at matches.

There was an article on the BBC site last week about a kid who was coached (and abused) by Bennell while training to be on Man City’s books; he eventually got signed on schoolboy terms and moved up to another coach, who proceeded to call him, in front of the rest of the team, one of “Bennell’s bum boys”. It’s quite an issue for the culture of football that the least bad thing that can be said of that story is that the other coach thought that that was an ok say thing to say to, and about, a 15/16 year old boy.

Judging by BBS precedent, I understand it would be killing him, his entire family, and using Bunsen burners to boil any surplus semen he has lying around anywhere.

So another coach was heard digging out one of the kids back then by calling him 'Bennell's bum boy' - No wonder the abused stayed silent when they were just going to be abused again by some others verbally. Let's hope that nasty **** of a coach got his comeuppance with something really horrible and hopefully painful happening to him.

You think there is something unique about football in that respect? I'm very much afraid that isn't the case.

I don’t think it is unique no, but I think football has lived outside the rules more than a lot of industry’s for a long time.

Not sure what you base that on tbh. Or what you mean by living outside the 'rules'? It's the most popular sport in the country so inevitably the higher profile (and money of course) bring particular issues and prominence. I cant think of any governing body that has been a shining light? Cycling and drugs. Swimming and it's allegations of bullying (and its own sexual abuse cases, with the head coach in the 90's).
