Short Selling - Sunderland Being Given Away

5Live reporting that Ellis Short is prepared to give Sunderland away as long to any party as long as they're prepared to take on the club's debt.

Most players had relegation wage cut clauses in their contracts, but if they go down again some are saying administration is on the horizon.

Sad times , loved going Roker Park and yet another club ruined by the greed league.

Don’t get why you saying ruined by the Premier League. In my view, problems have been caused by bad decisions by the club, including the fact that they wanted to go to the next level by over paying for players. There is a lesson there for all clubs.

The next level is down to teams going all out in the championship originally and then in the premier league chasing the £ instead of building the infrastructure of the club up giving it solid foundations. Look at us signing big names on big wages but completely unbalancing the squad leaving us well short in numbers in terms of quality imo. Didn’t SP say himself that we should be aiming higher? Then starts bringing in players we can’t realistically afford. You can with right manager build gradually to reach the top half of the table.

Their problems are all of their own making. Burnley didn't have the same problem when they went down.

Some Sunderland fans were particularly unpleasant to my 8 year old during & after the 0-4 last season.

I can't romanticise about Roker Park either after more unpleasantness after the 76 cup game. I was 7 and quite frankly terrified after grown men tried to steal my scarf.

Generations of grown men picking on kids. 'Big club' nonsense. I won't shed a tear if they go down again.

I particularly enjoyed the game up there when Bolasie got a very quick hat trick at the start of the second half.

It was no exaggeration that half the stadium had left with half an hour of the game to go.

Naturally we stayed in the ground to give Palace a rapturous cheer off.

When we eventually got back to where we had parked, a car load of Sunderland fans were all sitting in their car waiting to leave. The silly buggers had somehow got their car up the kerb and parked on a bit of grass, and were blocked in by us parked normally and legally on the road, and couldn't go anywhere until we moved ours!

Used to work with the brother in law of a Sunderland player in the early 90s and if Palace were away we'd go to Roker Park,.free tickets and mix with players in the bar afterwards, met coppell, Wright etc when we played there. Great place to watch football.

Sunderland & Hull should be a warning to all relegation threatened teams in the Prem. How quickly the dream can turn sour..

They wouldn't be the first though. Bolton, Charlton, Leeds, Blackburn, Wigan and Wolves are other examples of clubs who have ended up in League One not long after being relegated from the Premier League. It seems you are just as likely to be relegated again as go back up.

Southampton and Premier league winners Leicester both spent spells in League 1, yet Bradford went down to League 2.

It is impossible to guess what would happen if we went down

I was teenager at the time. Will never forget bricks coming through bus windows at Leeds and then running for my life at Sunderland. I was so surprised at the time and will never forget the ugliness of the moments

My fear is that with such a small squad, and any pretty good player looking to leave, we would have to completely rebuild from scratch.

Speroni - Retire?
Hennessey - I guess he would stay

Ward - Hopeully stays
Fossu Mensah - Leaves
Schlupp - Hopefully stays
PVA - I imagine he’ll leave
Souare - I think he’s finished
Tomkins - Leaves
Sakho - Leaves
Dann - Stays
Jach - Stays
Kelly - Stays
Delaney - Stays
Reideweld - I imagine he’ll want to go

Luka - Will surely leave
Cabaye - Out of contract and will leave
McArthur - Hopefully will stay
Puncheon - I doubt the club will want to keep him
Townsend - Leaves
Zaha -
Lee - I think he wants to leave anyway
Mutch - lol
Williams - It’s time for him to move on
Sako - I imagine he’ll leave on a free
Rakip - I imagine he’ll go back to Benfica

Benteke - Leaves
Sorloth - Hopefully stays
Wickham - Stays but will he play?

That is potentially a crisis. With our record in the transfer window over the least year, I think we’d struggle to field 11 players on the opening day of the season for clarity; if we get relegated then I think we’ll have something like the following:

Hennessey

Ward
Schlupp
Dann
Jach
Kelly
Delaney

McArthur
Mutch

Sorloth
Wickham

Thats what the Sunderland fans said after their summer sales, but when you have a lower income and still big wages to pay, the money ends up getting used on wages and the like rather than transfers
