Just shows what playing under Alan Smith does for a player.
Remember Alan 'Some say Smith, we say God' Smith getting Matthew Upson on loan from Arsenal and infruriating Arsenal by playing him at right back where he looked totally ordinary. Now look at him.

He had one great performance, away at watford
His performance against Wolves however was laughable (though he wasnt alone that day)

At the time, reports did suggest that we paid £1m for him, but it wasn't true.
As pointed out, away @ Watford, he was brilliant but other then that, he failed to impress. I thought it was more like four games, as opposed to eight, but I'm probably wrong.

I remember that wolves game, I actually felt embarrassed for him. His first touch was so bad that it looked like he had come straight from the pub.

he was unlucky to come into a team that was realy low on confidence under smith. he actually played well away at watford (a game we shouldve won but the ref decided to send Routledge off for nothing), and the home game against wolves (when the season tickets went flying) he didnt really get a chance. |

Routledge sent off at Watford was 2002/03 season. He was amazing at Watford that day! But didn't do much else. I remember his debut at Barnsley, which was pretty uneventful too!

Didn't help that people wrote him off as being "crap" after only a handful of matches. Bearing in mind that he was playing in an uninspired Alan Smith side.

Sure I read somehwere that Fuller was recovering from an injury when he was here and was nowhere near full fitness. Considering the money we have wasted on players I would have thought giving him a 6 month contract would have been worth a gamble, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

You could see he had something from his performace away at Watford. My lads and I really raved about him that day but it took him a long time to fulfill that potential.

Who was that defender we had on trial at the same time?

I seem to recall that Fuller arrived at Palace on trial from Charlton!

Just saw this post by Kenny on Aki's website:
Kenny Verhoene (kennyverhoene@hotmail.com), 8/9-2001 20:24Mister Riihilati, How you're doing back there in England. As far as I see on the webpage of Palace you're doing pretty well. You scored already two goals?? My God, you see what it means to have some practice with a real striker, isn't it? As you know I'm playing in Israel for the moment, but I hope to go back pretty fast to Europe and in particular Holland or England of course. I wish you all the best this season (with many goals!!) and also for the whole team of course. Many greetings to all the boys. Oh yes, my question? Did you discover already some new nice places to go when I'm back there. Greetings out of Beer-Sheva, Israel.Kenny Verhoene Hallo Kenny, Nice to hear from You. It really helped to see some striker work. Hope You have it great there and footie is going good. I will own the city by the time You are back here |
