Hennessey or Macca. He still has his flaws but genuinely think our keeper has done well in the last few months.

Real lack of quality in the oppositions box is still a worry. Benteke, Wilf and Andros all lacking in that department and both Jimmy and Cabaye should have done better with chances too.

Yet another game we may well live to regret.

A great second half performance. Wilf, stop the blind crossing, they are always overhit. F-M are you a footballer or a sprinter? I'm unsure. Benteke, helped play, but how long are we going to continue to stick with him. Chance in the first half, struck like one of his typical penalties, instead of chipping the keeper, or slotting it to the side of him. Pathetic off of the knee miss from one yard. Massively contributed to us missing out on a thoroughly deserved three points today. Not sure why Sarloth wasn't given any game time what with four very tough games ahead of us. Welcome back Sakho, some great distribution play by him this afternoon.

Man of the match is the linesman for being brave and making a good decision when most other assistant refs wouldn’t.

pva particualrly good in foirst half when we were generally poor
Maca good second half
Wilf far better on the wing
Undoubtedly someone will blame hennesy for their goal
shame the lino/ref missed the second shirt pull
Newcastle put a l;ot of energy into the first half which they were never going to sustain.
Wilf will only be a top 6 club player when he improves his finishing

TFM seems to be another one of those ‘see what you want players’ and so opinions vary a lot. I thought he had a fairly good game today overall but he is still very raw and so there are a lot of moments that don’t look pretty. His first half cross deserved a goal but Wilf was didn’t oblige. What I like is that he has real pace, tackles well and often and isn’t pushed around. He was far better on the ball today but needs players to give him a pass..

PVA followed closely by Macca and Yo. Late on wilf broke free and pulled it back the only player busting a gut to get there was Cabaye...Benteke on the other hand barely made it in to the box. The guys movement and reading of the game is awful and has costs us several points singlehandedly

Steward who tackled the nutter that ran onto the pitch made the best tackle of the game.

To follow up on the Benteke point ther was an incident Kate on where he chased the ball and stopped going for a goal kick. He the laid the ball out to Wilf on the wing, all good so far.
Then instead of breaking his neck to get back in the 6 yard box to be available for the cross he just stood there, after a couple of seconds he started walking into position. wilfs cross was blocked for a corner but had it not been Benteke wouldnt have been where he needed to be because he made no effort at all to be so

MOM- 8 Given it to Hennessey for the stick he gets (quite deservedly too), and for keeping us in it, for the first 30 mins, but also credit when credit is due.
TFM - 5 Was disappointed with him today. Has the potential but makes too many diving challenges.
PvA -8 Best well in 1st half even better in 2nd half when linking up with Zaha, giving him an extra option.
Tomkins - 6 - Not his best but not his worse..
Kelly - 5 - was turned quite easily, and at fault for the goal
Luka - 7 - Kept the middle of the park ticking along nicely.
Cabaye - 6 - Poor set pieces and missed so many good opportunities. But you have to get in those positions in the first place. As was the feeling today, another day perhaps?
McArthur - 7 - Played so much better in the middle of the park. Great second half
Townsend - 5 - If he just tried and beat his man on the outside, he would give Benteke so many more oppotunities like he did against West Ham.
Wilf - 6 - Wasteful. Should have done alot better with the chances to be fair created most of the time himself. Played much better on the wing, and having PvA as an option as on overlap helped him enourmously.

Benteke - 6 - I don't know how unlucky he was in the 2nd half. But when through one on one in the 1st half, should have scored. Good hold up play though, but has to start scoring soon.

Subs
Sakho - 7 - Beast. Defended well, and looked so much more composed on the ball and as a team as we seem to hold possession but better with him as both he and Tomkins can play out from the back.

We weren’t as bad as reported on the bbs first half. Some glaring errors though, again from set pieces and a smaller continuation of our recent fetish for poor passing.

Once again the goal came from a corner. Same shit it’s been for weeks, we Man mark for defending corners... Kelly goes all zonal! Half of our goals recently, watch them again.. he marks someone and then runs off after the ball or another player. He does it loads and sometimes we have conceded but when we do he’d usually abandoned the eventual goal scorer and TFM hasn’t got there. TFM too often let’s his man get away. Whilst I do like having Kelly as emergency cover and appreciate his effort and do think TFM has lots of potential those two have cost us so many points in recent weeks.

Other than that it wasn’t awful at all aside from the lack of points. We created 4 excellent chances first half and should have scored. Second half we were utterly dominant. It wasn’t the case this time of the opposition easing off we just took complete control. How we didn’t win I don’t know ans it’s terrifying we could be so on top so often thus season and go down for not winning them. Anyway, not losing was most important but the win would have been massive.

Wayne 8 - nothing wrong at all today. Very good throughout. Came and cleared when required and a few very good stops when called on. Be a good keeper if he was consistent like today

TFM 6 - went awol a few times though ok most of it. Good at charging forward but his shooting and crossing is atrocious. Gets caught to narrow at times but untested for the most part second half and dealt with what he had. 2 players free for Newcastle goal at the far post, both he and Kelly to blame again

Kelly 5 - again doesn’t understand man marking at set pieces and again it cost us. Hope he’s not too injured as appropriate the effort and cover but he can’t be a starter. We need Sakho and Tomkins as we’re in the shit without

Tomkins 6 - worst game for a while but that’s against a high standard. 3? 4? Errors early in the first half and he looked set for a mare. That said he recovered well and was faultless for the rest of the game. He and Sakho not troubled after the break

Sakho 7 - so much more solid with him back. Yay

Pva 8.5 - MOTM only he and Wayne very good first half and he continued second half thus motm. Really relishing the role back in the side. He’s bloody concentrating and that’s the key.. everything else I’m defence ans supporting attacks was great with some very good driving runs

Townsend 6.5 - not a bad game but FFS he has to drive to the line and cross with his right foot or he needs to be swapped to the left. The cut backs are ridiculous. The defenders agains him are showing him to the channel now and reading the cut back and he’s still ******* doing it! Tackles benteke when he was about to shoot ans that triggers a 10 minute spell when we look panicky after a good looking start.

Luka 7 - quiet but steady first half. In control second and bossed the midfield with cabaye. Keeper got a touch but enough power to beat him with the pen.

Cabaye 7 - again quite quiet first half and first corners poor. Second half some delightful passes to start attacks, good corners and free kicks and all an all action display. Should have done better with a shot but leaning back for what felt an age and was almost over by time the ball reached him. Much better though and looked fitter

Jimmy 7.5 - that’s better! He’s back again. Again quiet first half really but busy. Second his energy and harassment caused Newcastle all sorts of problems and nearly scored a few. Should have had a penalty after being dragged back and stopped by blocks and saves. Looked good off Benteke. Such a key player for us. Jack of all trades he’s not bad at anything and combined with his energy he’s just a problem for teams against us. Glad he’s back

Zaha 7 - I’ve chosen to ignore first half. He missed a one on one but was injured early. Really worried as he totally avoided a tackle for a while, taking the easy pass rather than risking a challenge and leaving a 50:50. Every time the ball was out of play he was stretching and fiddling with his groin (oh er) and I was concerned. Seemed to free up and get moving last 10 mins first half and was a real threat second. Scared the crap out of them second. Should have scored second but it wasn’t the open goal some would have you believe.. oddly it was blocked and should have been a corner... some missed open goal! Much better second, harsh to not win

Benteke 7 - had a one on one saved first half he could have scored. Put a header wide second. Those were the only negatives. Anyone who thinks the ball that hit him in the stomach was anything like a chance needs to watch again on get a grip. A couple of other chances, it was only his monumental leap that even made it a half chance. Won everything in the air and his flick ons lead to lots of our good moves. Should have had a pen first half when he got a shove mid leap and was tugged on for the penalty we got. He played well. Will get shit but he played well.

Ref - horrible. Better second half and agreed with Lino for a pen but we should have had 2 more. Gave a goal kick imstead of a corner for wilf chance. Lino on the other side missed blatant fouls on Luka and pva ans Newcastle came close from then. Poor overall

Roy. About right. Individual errors first half much better second. Yes I would have liked to see sorloth but we were dominating Newcastle and a change wasn’t worth it

Good performance, not the result. Same again. Let’s hope it doesn’t cost us but I’m a lot more confident with Sakho and ward coming back

With all due respect and I hope you don't mind me saying this but you are especially guilty of this as you seem to rate TFM highly regardless of his performances. I think he's a huge prospect and will be some player but he's very raw and today was without doubt his poorest performance of the season. He was also poor against West Ham. He kept diving into tackles, falling over and getting caught under the ball. Great prospect but today was a game to forget for him.

I'd bring ward back next week. He's currently the better defender. Though I'm sure TFM will go on to be the better player.

Re that sequence I agree completely. we were screaming at him to get into the box and he just stood there. Constantly getting offside, not because his playing on the shoulder and bursting through but because he can’t be a***d to get back onside when Wayne is kicking is unforgivable TBH.
