He's poor, cant handle the ball and defensively dives in too much

I agree.....so why is Cabaye still taking every set piece! Have we ever scored from a Cabaye corner? I can't remember one that beat the first man! I like Townsend, but he doesn't beat a man and his delivery bar his work rate seems to be his only attribute, so let him take them?! |

There is something about it at home.....to much pressure almost.... hard to explain but im sure there is something in it..... and before you rage at me, its one of those things where we must find out why we start so poorly at home. Im just picking one of many possibilities. |

Went with PVA because he was our best player in the first half, and continued to defend well and support the attacks well in the second half.
TFM had an awful first half. Spent more time on the floor than anything else. Dives in to challenges, which he was mistiming, and then therefore takes himself out of the game. Seemed to injure himself at one point. He improved in the second half, but I was surprised not to see Ward replace him. Newcastle, driven by Shelvey, controlled the midfield in the first half, and although we created a couple of chances they could well have gone in at half time more than 1 up. We needed to change things up, and that's what Roy did, moving to what seemed to be a 4-3-3 with Jimmy more central, giving us the much needed energy in midfield. In the last 20 - 25 minutes Shelvey faded totally out of the game - he looked very unfit to me - and we controlled the game. Really should have scored more in the end, wasting a number of decent opportunities. A word on the ref - he was ridiculously one sided in the first half particularly, and then started the second half giving us freekicks for fouls he'd let go in the first. An odd performance. |

Unfortunately Wilf and Benteke wasted both of them

PVA MOTM
Benteke did well apart from the whole scoring thing. Looked to press more today when sensible, though Darlow stayed composed for the most part Cabaye > Macca by a mile - controlled the game more 2nd half TFM was shit. All over the place positionally, beaten too many times and nothing special on the ball. Will probably do well v Everton as that seems to be how it goes for him Hennessey had his best game of the season and was our saviour a few times, fair play CB's dealt well with the long balls over the top mostly, albeit against a Championship striker. Coped with Newcastle's press ok without hoofing it out which was nice Wilf much better today imo though his end product wasn't quite there. Give him a good LB looking to overlap often like PVA did and he'll find space behind any defence. Keep out wide now Roy. Roy - think the 4-4-2 is nearing its end. We lose the midfield too often with it now especially with the fatigue our midfielders have when playing every minute. At least he changed things up. Right not to sub anyone, there was no obvious choice and it would have killed their flow. Need to go at Everton next week though, they're pony and we know very well we can get through their defence after the Selhurst game |

PVA has been most consistent good player in recent games. Clear MoM. And to Spanish sparrow, another game where Henn kept us in it. Not sure why TFM getting so much stick, he was ok and like Jimmy and Wilf much improved second half. Disappointments for me were Andros and Yolanda, who waste so many chances and can't take free kicks. Should be PVA and Luka. Wilf selfish a couple of times but looking better than past two matches. Congrats to Martin K on his 100th game. Should have got the second goal with the chances we had

PVA only one interested first half...is it a tactic to not waste too much energy first half and try to go in 0-0 and then give it a go second half?! Same thing as against Southampton away, we looked to lethargic until half time...especially Cabaye and Wilf and then looked a different team second half.

Yes fair play to him and gets credit for that. That a big man to admit they had a poor performance.
Also Kelly was a liability today and at fault for their goal. I hate giving poor goals away at any level but his defending for the goal was unacceptable for a professional player. Picked up Diame, left him and picked up someone else who to be fair was a completely different colour. Shocking defending what an earth was going through his head. Thought Zaha was very good and his workrate was exceptional. It was Zaha that ran the length of the pitch to break up their counter attack at one stage. Don't know why Roy didn't chuck on the new signing Sorloth for the last 10/15 minutes. If his not fit for that long why even have him on the bench.

McArthur won the second half but PvA was just brilliant.

TFM dire first half, excellent in second. Mind you that applies to nearly everyone. Townsend is a waste of space. He ALWAYS turns out, then in, then out again, even though he has created a space with the first swerve, so ends up stuck in the corner and loses the ball.
How can we play so badly one half and so well in the second? Should have won but at 45 mins would have settled for a point. |

TFM improved when the superb Kenedy went off. By the way was Kenedy injured ? Strange to take their best player off otherwise.

What is it about our players? Lack of concentration? Mental weakness? Short on confidence? For crissakes just bang the ball in the net and perform the self-analysis later.

MoM: Lino, even Benteke looked confused.
