This^^^^ I haven’t once said a bad word about Parish and co because I can imagine how difficult all of this transfer stuff must be in reality and we have to accept that fact we don’t have a bottomless pit. BUT WTF was going through their heads with a threadbare squad only two keepers to bring in 3 players two of which are considered to be for the future and the other not fit

As fans we put a lot of time, energy and money into supporting our team and the very least we deserve is to see passion, desire and effort from our players. I felt we got this today, especially in the second half. We deserved the win, creating and not converting a bucket load of chances. I thought the whole team really put it in, special mentions to pva and macarthur. Wilf back to his thrilling self in second half when out wide. Sakho gives the team an air of confidence and impenetrability, he is so composed (sometimes scarily so!) and sets up attacks with cultured passing in a way that Kelly can not recreate. Newcastle didn’t touch the ball in our box in the second half. Enough said.

An amazing stat from the 2nd half is that Newcastle did not have one touch in our box

2 points dropped today. Yet again we don't make our pressure count.
Defence: Hennessey had a very good game today. Came for balls in the box, tried to distribute it quickly - and kept us in it first half. PVA - great game both defensively and offensively. Tomkins and Kelly OK - we looked much improved when Sakho came on. TFM - takes risks, makes mistakes, but rather him than Ward against pace. Midfield Cabaye looked shattered at the end (Shelvey would be a great Cabaye replacement). Jimmy Mac - great 2nd when in postion, 1st half not so great out wide. We still are not playing to Benteke's strengths, get to the byline and whip balls in. Luka was solid - got away with his penalty. Offence: Wilf made a few poor decisions today, but we can't rely on him to bail us out every time. Made an outstanding defensive run from our corner when Newcastle were counter-attacking. Would love to see Wilf and Andros on the opposite wings, so they have to go outside the full back rather than cutting in all the time. Benteke just doesn't do enough for me - never seems to time his runs or jump! Roy: He was too cautious and should have brough Sorloth on with 15-20 mins to go. Benteke never looked like scoring, and Cabaye looked shattered. Also can we get someone else to take corners - we never look like scoring from Cabaye floats in the ball.

WH - 8, competent throughout.
Timmy - 5, I'm sure he's in because he has pace to burn but I'd feel more confident with Ward defending, also Townsend simply doesn't seem to see TFM. I'll be watching MOTD later to look at the goal, I'm sure that's where Ward always seems to be. Tomkins - 6, decent as usual Kelly - 6, ok for his short spell Sakho - 7, back for good I guess PVA - 8, MoM, always trying to make something happen, loads of pace too Luka - 7, not much to say, solid enough Cabs - 6, missed a sitter Mac - 6, decent 2nd half Zaha - 6, played well but lacking a final product, skyed a decent chance Townsend - 7, played well enough Benteke - 6, there is no point in this player unless you stick the ball on his head. I suppose there's not too much to say about the front players as they didn't manage a goal. It was a bit like the Wet Spam match in which we also had majority possession, we seem to struggle to breakdown teams that defend. |

On the Toon Forum they are saying that the penalty should have been given so fair play to them, however the majority are saying we should have had a second penalty. Anyone know what they are talking about, assume it was highlighted on the TV?

McArthur was pulled back at a corner not long after the penalty was given. The lino thought about it again but bottled it.

Seriously scro, you seem like a genuinely nice guy from what I read on here and I know you’re a family guy with kids as you often talk of your kids and taking them to all the matches you go to. So why the need for taking the piss out of ‘Roy’s’ speech impediment? He’s clearly had this since he was a child through his life, but he’s the leader of our club and generally, doing a fine job. That’s the sort of thing opposing fans would use to swipe a stick at us. |

Clear shirt pulling on McArthur by Shelvey in the last couple of minutes in the box.

JW is slooooow these days. Kennedy and the 'new' winger Newcastle brought on would have ripped him a new one. He'd have been giving fouls away left right and centre. Joel often does this generally about five minutes before half time in a nice dangerous position for us to concede from because he's not quick enough anymore.

There were a few moments of really good one touch passing and through balls that we don't often see, such a shame we couldn't hit the target more often.
Pretty poor first half, but the second was an exciting game and it'd difficult to believe one of those didn't go over the line. |

Hen 9 - didn't put a foot wrong today
TFM 5 - struggled at times and kept diving in to tackles. When he does get forward, his final ball is not good enough PvA 9 - Great game defensively and going forward. MOM for me. Tomkins 6 - Some crazy attempted clearances, but otherwise ok Kelly 5 - Along with TFM, looked a weak link in the first half McArther 7 - had a great 2nd half. Should have scored. Cabaye 6 - decent general play, but get him off set pieces... Luka 6 - poor penalty, but otherwise decent Andros 6 - tried, but doesn't do enough for me at the moment Benteke 7 - played well today, but another goalless home performance Wilf 7 - doesn't look himself most of the time. Came into it more as the game went on. Should have taken his chance at goal. subs Mama 8 - Felt a lot better with him on the pitch instead of Kelly. Led the defence well and plays good forward passes on the ground into the front men.

One major positive is that Benteke won 't be accused of diving for the penalty.
