Is that new striker going to play for the U23's today?

The fitness guys will have monitored his status, and the coaches want more time to integrate him into our squad/playing style. No point in just chucking him in the deep end - sometimes you really have to trust our professionals. |

How much of Hennessey's good form should we put down to Dean Kiely ?
(he was an excellent technical GK). |

I’ve voted PVA as MoM.
Others played v well in the second half, esp Mac, and Wayne did well with mostly stuff that I’d expect a Prem goalie to do. But PVA put in a great shift throughout the match, including the first half when others were in second gear by comparison with him. He seems to have found some extra dynamism and impressive fitness....maybe it’s his new hairstyle! |

from the off PVA looked in another gear and maintained this throughout. Perhaps the interest from man City is not so fanciful.
Talking to some of Wayne's fiercest critics and they had to admit a great improvement . He did a great punch early on from a cross and grew in confidence thereafter- applauded off at the end quite rightly |

Hennessey 7 - played well, but didn’t do anyth8ng that shouldn’t be expected of a PL keeper
TFM 5 - struggled first half, improved second, may be tired and in need of resting? PVA 8 - generally sound defensively and offered an outlet going forward, crossing could be better at times Tomkins 6.5 - not troubled too much by their forwards, although part of the defence that managed to let the ball travel through the box for the goal Kelly 5.5 - troubled by Gayle’s liveliness and got lost for the goal Luka 6.5 - failed to clear the corner for the goal, any penalty that goes in is a good one McArthur 6 - struggled first half on the back of two poor games but much improved second when moved inside Cabaye 6.5 - lively and still often our best option on the ball, couple of poor efforts on goal Townsend 6 - fairly average Zaha 6 - needs to realise when it’s in the team interests to real ease other players Benteke 6 - poor effort early in the first half, unlucky with the header cleared on the line but should have been more decisive with the follow up Sakho 6 - untroubled in the second half

Well it would be company for our other two January signings who aren't up to PL level I suppose.

Hoping that the second half performance is the final nail in the coffin for playing Wilf as a striker. He is so much more effective (as others also are) when out wide.

First half we were poor and Shelvey bossed the game. Second we got in and around them more. Could have lost it and won it so a draw is probably fair.

Just finished watching the full highlights on the Palace website - how did we not win that? I suppose they defended with some guts and we weren't quite clinical enough, but some of the build up was terrific, not to mention relentless. Noticed that we were far less ponderous in the final third and moved it about really quickly and effectively as well - a definite step in the right direction.
If only PvA had been spotted, he had a virtually open goal running in from the left on a couple of occasions. Benteke - Brilliant hold up, link up and flick-ons, but still sadly lacking in front of goal. PvA - Outstanding, genuinely like a different player, a much better one. Wilf - Much better in the second and looked like he was enjoying himself again. McArthur - Poor in the first, very classy in the second. The Henn - Can't think of a single thing he could've done better. The rest all played equally better in the second and a nice easy run out for Sakho too.
