Although that made sense as the transfer window lasted until the end of August too. Now it's all a bit confused because the transfer window in has closed but the one out is still open. Anyway, we'll find out when we found it.

So basically after making their decision on the 25, Premier League teams have another two weeks to get rid of their surplus players. At least it does make things a little easier for Championship teams to know who to enquire about, and for players left out to go out on loan knowing they'll not make the 25

I suspect therefore that they will use the second clause to allow teams to amend up until the 1st September if they are selling/loaning players in their 25 but it doesn't seem like anyone actually knows.
The rules don't mention when squad lists have to be submitted so presumably the Premier League is using the 1st September deadline in line with other transfer windows.

The rule about 'permission of the league' is really for exceptional circumstances e.g. your whole team falling under a bus.

On that basis, the new arrangement makes a lot of sense.

I'm guessing the league might be sympathetic to a season ending injury or surprise transfer.

I think we only have 24 anyway so could still sign Yaya Toure *

* not altogether serious and not sure about 24 fact either

Although if true, Yaya Toure must have very few options in England now, as most clubs will have 25 players or more. Ambiguous rules.

We have 26 overage players so one not named, Innis I suspect, and all others named even if they later leave.

Can't see any benefit in the Premier league window closing than the European one. Should be closing at the same time. At the moment european clubs know they can get a player cheaper by waiting as there won't be Premier league competition.

From our perspective, at least it means we go into the season having completed our business for once though

I don't mind it too much as makes it a bit more straight forward. You know who you've got so removes the element of sales dependent on XXXX moving etc and all the chaos that causes. Ideally the top leagues with the financial power would all be aligned though (Spain, UK, France, Germany, Italy)

Personally I'd be all for a fully staggered window in the UK

Prem window closes this week
Championship window closes next week
League One & League Two windows closes the following week

Would make things a lot easier for clubs lower down the chain to arrange replacements for players getting picked off by clubs at the top early on in the window.

Unfortunately not. That's why you have a 25 man squad. We ended up having to name Dann and Punch in our January squad even though they were both out for the rest of the season. OK we could have bought replacements but that was our decision.
