European Court will have no influence over Britain after Brexit, Theresa May to pledge
"The European Court will have no influence over Britain after Brexit, Theresa May will pledge in a major speech next week. The Prime Minister will use a Brexit speech planned for Tuesday to declare that the UK will not be in the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice from the moment it leaves the EU in 2019, sources said. Her vow will be a direct rebuke to EU leaders who have in recent days claimed that Britain will remain under the rule of the European courts for years after Brexit." To be fair, he has in the past also quoted himself to support an argument he was making. Now that is stupid.

This bit is already occupying the minds of economists etc., as work is not paying for a growing group. It's a worry when combined with expected inflation and Bank rate rises, especially given the level of credit fuelled spending.

Presently, UK courts must interpret EU-derived legislation in accordance with ECJ rulings and a body of UK case law has built up that does that. Even if Brexit means that the ECJ would no longer have jurisdiction and its future decisions would not be binding on UK courts, it seems likely that if the UK were to retain any laws originating from the EU (which is probable), the UK courts would still take account of future ECJ judgments as persuasive – albeit not binding – when ruling on those laws. In this case, the ECJ would continue to exert considerable influence.

EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier wants 'special relationship' with City of London So Carney was right in what he said a little while ago, they need the city. As they have no alternative. |

It's an incredibly dumb and myopic view of our place in the world if someone voted Brexit because of EU influence on the UK. We have incredible influence on the EU and other countries around the world. Other countries and international organisations have influence on us. It's how we get along!
And now we want to isolate ourselves from the world because of the jingoistic notions of a few old farts.

Er no. You just dont get it. What we want is quite the opposite, and to throw of the EU handcuffs and straight jacket at the same time.

In return, we will be facing trade barriers everywhere else. In the US, foreign companies cannot bid for public contracts for example. So in any future Free Trade Agreement with them then either we let US companies run privatised or contracted out services, as we do now, with no reciprocal arrangement or we match their barriers by introducing new restrictions. And don't even get started on big emerging economies like India and China with their protections for native producers, jobs, state funding etc.
