When I'm in the office I'm up at 4.40am and rarely back before 8.30pm. The team I work for are good people, but I'm not at a stage in my life where I'm not driven by sales like I used to be and based on that I felt it was for the best that I did the honest thing and walk away. I've been with my current firm for almost 10 years, and I know I wouldn't be able to work in another office environment as the thought alone makes me anxious. (no doubt I could do a sales job, but I massively lack self confidence in new situations and the anxiety this brings can be debilitating)
In your instance are you doing any exercise? However lethargic you may feel I know I feel a million times better with some exercise and getting the endorphins going. Keep going mate, don't doubt yourself and if you want to talk you know where I am.
Really appreciate it mate!

I went to the gym earlier in the year and felt good, I need to push myself and maybe start up again. I am now eating bad, not sleeping and feel groggy which doesn't help.

You are right about office environments, mentally it's so challenging. Great that you are changing careers!! Wish you the best of luck. Sounds like you have a plan and that you are doing the right thing.

Eating and sleeping problems are classic symptoms of depression as you probably know.Dont self medicate with alcohol though as it deadens the effect of the medication.I normally get pissed once at the weekend and have a bottle of wine midweek which is fine but 2 sessions in quick succession and the anxiety comes back...

I'm definitely finding it easier to just have a couple of beers after work etc. I'm going to try and make November a month of changes. Less alcohol, better diet and more exercise! I have to do it because I'm falling into a bad trap at the moment. Appreciate the advice.

This thread is worth its weight in gold to so many people, and all Iíll say is keep talking. We all have good/bad days and getting a response of reassurance can mean so much. Trying to eat healthily this time of the year can be hard as people steadily want stodgy/comfort foods as the nights draw in. I find even something as simple as eating some nuts/seeds on the go which are high in omega 3/essential fatty acids which are needed for nerve function can help balance you out.
Sleep is pivotal and from my experience a lack of it, can significantly increase your anxiety, and thatís why I also try and limit my caffeine/alcohol intake wherever possible.

Keep going

Not easy, I know but worth a go. Wish you all the very best.
Thanks

This place has helped a lot tonight and it really is appreciated. I know what I need to do and looking back isn't going to help at all.

Going to try and get a good nights sleep and have try to have a fresh outlook tomorrow. Plus it's Friday which helps .

Thanks for the post as well Jaspercpfc. The reassurance is massive and as much as I love my wife and have good support I feel like a burden especially with how bad I've been in the past and want to be strong for her and the family. This place really offers such good support.

I remember a guy on here saying his energy and motivation levels were so low he was struggling even to get to the bathroom. You advised him to travel to Australia.

I walked out at lunch today, the Manager picks on every little thing I say or do even though I don't have a clue and have had no proper training. Found out the two previous people left within 2 weeks. I told her I was sick which was a complete lie, I hadn't had time off in over a year before today. I now feel the worst I have done in years. I've left a good job and can't go back, my experience is all customer service based and there is nothing out there which is decent or will pay what I had. I feel worse because I'm just feeling sorry for myself on top of everything. It's Christmas in 8 weeks and now I'm worried about money as well...Just feel like I've self exploded. I've applied for jobs today but just feel crap. Sorry for the rant, just the best place for me to talk. My wife don't need it, she already senses how I feel which doesn't help.

After Juleses last comment I'm not sure this is good advice or not Sean, but you should talk to your missus I think. You haven't murdered anybody and won't be the first or last to leave a good job for a shit one. At least there should be plenty of temporary work for you to try. Do you drive? Firms like yodel or the post office are always looking at this time of year. If you like it and they like you it might become permanent. I don't blame you for leaving something intolerable though.

Elgs is spot on Sean

I know it's easy said but it's a job. You've not lost your wife / kids etc. You're not going down for a stretch. That's bad shit. This is a blip. Nothing more, nothing less. It's life. I hope that doesn't sound dismissive because it's not suppose to if it does. Talk to your Mrs. Both you and her will feel much better after. You'll be fine mate. And stay away from the liquor. Nows not the time

Good luck pal

Really appreciate it both of you and I bloody mean it. So easy to drink and I could quite easily have a few brandys but I know that's not the answer. Funnily enough I've applied for some driving jobs today as it's independent and might work for the moment. I need to stop feeling sorry for myself, I know people are going through real crap like Cancer, losing family members etc etc so I need to put things into perspective.

I need a good night sleep I think and maybe things will look better tomorrow. I have spoken to my wife a bit but always feel so bad, years back I was terrible with depression amd anxiety and it was hell for her. Love her and my family to bits and just want to man up....hate being a fragile you know what. Thanks again though....helps to be able to let it out.

Good man. That's the spirit fella. Good on you for getting straight into looking for work.

Your feelings right now - the uncertainty and anxiousness - are completely normal. I've got a solid job and no real worries but I get a bit anxious about the 'doomsday scenario' sometimes. It's human nature when you've got responsibilities. You're not alone mate - keep talking

And you're right, sleep is massive !

Starting a temp job on Monday for two weeks so that's something and the agency I use is being really helpful so hopefully they will keep me going whilst I look for permanent work. Feel so much better being out of that environment.

Excellent news. You should work until mid December and then go to Australia for Christmas.
