Had a pint in the Cronx bar, lovely little place!
Didn't eat as the main bit was packed for the rugby..

Visited Boxpark and tried the Coqfighters burger.
We all liked it, but felt £9 was a lot, especially as it didn't include a side with it. A friend recommended the chips with grated cheese from the stall on the first floor near the station and they were great. Don't know how much they were, but a large portion was enough for 3 of us. |

Went on Friday, enjoyed Meat Liquor and Cronx, looks alright in general but not that exciting.

I like Cronx but do find if you get anything other than their own stuff, it's very pricey.
And Coqfighter is great but again, £9 for a burger is a little too much imo. |

Dont have one then, plenty of great stuff there to eat without resorting to a burger.

I'm aware that purchase isn't compulsory, I'm just saying that it's a bit too much for my wallet.

I don't think I've actually enjoyed anything I've had there. On Saturday I had curry goat from Fish, Wings, and Tings. It was shit. The only place I've ever had curry goat was from a van in Brixton. It was gorgeous: on the bone so you had to work for it, properly seasoned and just a little bit dirty. But at box park it was basically underdone bland lamb. I thought these hipster types were concerned with authenticity. There was nothing nice or edgy about it in the slightest. It was just rubbish. I like the expensive chicken burger thing, but their chips are crap. And after the initial hunger wares off, you start noticing things in the chicken skin, like chicken hair and stubble. Most unappetising. Then there's having to eat with other people and listening to their smug, middle-class conversations: property prices...slagging off Croydon...other box parks attended...slagging off Croydon, etc.

It's true that the price difference between a Cronx own brand @£3.50 and guest beers can be quite substantial - some are more than £6 a pint on Keg. But they do sell at the higher price and it's good that they keep a range of price options available.
There's lots of food available at around a fiver... I like the Greek on the Street wraps at £4.95 and one of them fills me up. I think the Coq Fighters chicken burger is the best chicken burger I've ever eaten in my life, so I'm happy to spend £9 on it. The lads that run it are just straight up completely independent blokes trying to carve out a living selling decent stuff to willing punters. They work their nuts off. The other other week I took my youngest lad and a couple of his mates to MuckDonalds and ended doing £7+ a head on a mass produced shit-burger with fake plastic sauce and a handful of 'fries', oh and with a little syrup drink to go with it. It's horses for courses... you can get a chicken burger and a pint for £7 something at The George (spoons) down the road. Better still cook one at home and have it with a couple of £1 cans. How far do you take it? Personally I find it ridiculous spending £120 a head at some 'fine dining' restaurant and love a burger and beer for £12.50 all in... but I've found my price point I guess. Anyway... enough wittering.... as you were |

What an odd response by some.
It's interesting to share feedback about this venue. Everyone has different tastes and budgets and I've found it helpful to read recommendations. I don't think it's helpful to tell people that if they don't like something, they don't have to have it....I rather assume people are aware they have free choice to choose! I'm thinking of trying the creperie place next time...anyone tried it? |

The Big Mac is now not a burger i look forward to.....but a double cheeseburger at a place like Five Guys is 50 times better even though its just over double the price. I think one of the issues is that McDonalds used to be cheap......it really isnt now. |

But thigh is far more tasty and needs much more effort to prepare!!! Anyone can do a chicken breast burger / fillet, the thigh is one of the selling points! Have you had it, mac(donalds)star(burger) ?

That's what I'm saying, pay a little more and get something that you really enjoy. You're getting old, man! Your palette is maturing, and your pocket is getting slightly fatter
