Old Trafford is the closest stop but Exchange Quay is on a different line and usually quieter on the tram.

As a warning, once again you can't take bags into the ground (apart from very small handbags) but this season if you are sent to the bag drop area, there is now a £5 per bag charge for them to look after it

United also ban the use of recording equipment so don't take cameras or tablet devices including kindles.

The guide just emailed out by the box office says they do allow "small compact cameras" but not tablets, laptops, video recording equipment or 'large bodied cameras'

You cannot take drinks cartons, but can take clear plastic bottles of water, 500ml or less, top removed.

If anyone didn't get the killjoy set of instructions, pm me your email address and I will forward it on to you

Not that I have a handbag, or indeed, manbag, but that sounds a bit like extortion.

Some northern scroat saying, watch your bags mister?

They did the same for last weeks two England games at Wembley (including the £5 charge). I can't imagine it is very popular with the Designer Shopping Outlet right next to the stadium there, as people can't make impulse purchases and take them in with them.

I know it's all a bit 'modern football' but the clubs will use the excuse that a large percentage of the crowd arrive at the turnstiles in the 15 minutes before kick off, and they don't have the time to do thorough bag searches without delaying everyone

It's not a totally unfair argument. Wembley is a fairly obvious high profile target (and would have looked at Paris) and Old Trafford has been a suspected target previously and nervous after the Arena bombing there (even though that was people actually outside). I suppose it is up to individuals to decide if it is an overblown threat or the hassle is a price paying.

But Dave (Dorking Eagle) wasn't that Old Trafford incident when they left a test package behind after an exercise to train sniffer dogs.

That was amusing, as was the reaction when a programme and tickets were found at the flat of a terrorist a few years back - the wanker was just being a wanker and was a genuine fan.

I meant a much more recent case, though on second thoughts I believe it may have been the Trafford Centre - doh. Regardless, they are fairly obvious targets in or outside. Whether the actual likelihood is worth the hassle, well, as I say for individuals to debate.

Nothing like Manure to find yet another income stream; glad I've decided not to go this year.

IIRC the Man Utd v Bournemouth abandonment (which was Bournemouth's first ever game at Old Trafford, so a big deal for their fans) was very convenient, as it meant Man Utd got to play their final game the day after the rest of the league had finished their fixtures, and so knew what they needed to do.
