Once again I state she was not making a direct analogy she talked about the feelings of unease it stirred in her because of what her relatives had to endure in a Nazi Germany.
I do wonder how many people who are commenting on Social media have actually listened to what she said and how many are being swayed by the interpretation they are reading from others.

Did she specify early 1930s? I didn't hear or see that. Also Hitler came in to power in 1933. Even before that Jewish people were being beaten and harassed on the streets and the Nazi party was growing massively. Whatever way you look at this, comparison to a Labour Party investigation is utterly unacceptable (and in your words bonkers) in my view. There is a very real threat to minorities from the huge growth in the far right, Trump etc and this what makes what she has said even worse. |

When they do it with Hodge, it's proof that Hodge was crass... Still, fair's fair - if she wanted to mend the rift, then her actual words were still very misjudged. Which does raise the possibility that she didn't. Nevertheless, when you are in the oppressed minority, you do gain a right to make comparisons and evoke experiences that those outside it don't. Everyone knows that. Trying to deny Hodge that right whiffs heavily of racism. Does it look like Hodge is weaponising anti-semitism? Couldn't rule it out. Does that excuse trying to belittle her experience of anti-semitism? Shouldn't. And yes, I know there's many Jewish people who are rather taken aback by her words. But that's their right.

(Presuming you are referring to Steel, rather than Clarkson ... !) I missed that. Any link to it ?

I've seen small numbers of minority groups standing up for the BNP and UKIP and using their background to try and justify that. Doesn't mean I'm not going to comment. And before you say it, no I'm not comparing this to what Hodge said, just making a general comment. |

Hodge's comments were certainly clumsy, but the glee with which the Corbyn fan club have jumped on them to exonerate the dear leader is nauseating.

Corybyn has clearly made mistakes at times. The team around him have also done a poor job at times dealing with some public relations. There is anti-semitisim in Labour that needs dealing with. Hodge is vile piece of work, whose record on child abuse is utterly shameful, and she should have had no place in politics. She has now made this crass and in my view utterly disrespectful comment. Walk and chew gum as others have said. |

Oh that - sorry. I was there - I thought you might be referring to something else.

Some very vile people in Labour these days. Perhaps they were always there but they're front and centre now. |

But I think there are some points where the non-minority have to accept their opinion doesn't hold weight, primarily when it comes to experiences they've been through and the other side hasn't. I'd like to re-iterate at this point that it's clearly not difficult to find Jewish voices who think Hodge has laid it on a bit thick.

Says the vile person who despite not being Jewish, decides who can and can't be Jewish. Especially if they are black.
