All a bit sinister and 1970s. Nobody told the secret services it is 2018.

The police are investigating, Boris is making a lot of noise, what are the next steps?

What happens if someone high up in Russia says they did.

Is that the point where the story suddenly goes away?

It keeps May, the conservative government, and the Brexit feck up off the front pages for long enough to stretch to the royal wedding.

Diplomatic expulsions probably. Although its about time they got to grips with Russian money in the UK. A bit of asset freezing might put some pressure on Putin.

No one in Russia will admit it even though Putin recently made a speech that traitors would "kick the bucket". Its also useful propaganda before their farcical elections. There quite a few mysterious deaths of Russians and people involved in Russian business across the world.

Putin seems to be on a course towards a new cold war. We need to make sure we are armed adequately. I wonder what the gutless EU think of it all.

No need, we have nukes, that should suffice.

What would make us use nukes, assuming the Corbyn crowd you wish for don't get rid of them.

If they roll into Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, countries they already have surrounded with a vast number of troops, what about Poland. What if they dominate Polish policy. What about Germany, hardly a military power, they can do little.

It wouldn't take much to have a Russian dominated Europe, neither us or the French are going to fire off nukes unless we no choice.

I go with the theory that the Russians want this traitor in their eyes to suffer (his family have been disappearing under mysterious circumstances one by one
Definitely a message from Russia that we will get you in the end

Considering they are all NATO members you would like to think we (NATO) would have acted at Estonia let alone Latvia.

Using a nerve agent, particularly one that nobody is owning up to on the streets of another country could be construed as an act of war.

Its an age old question - How would NATO deal with a soviet invasion (or now Russian Invasion). Back in the cold war, it was always more likely that NATO would have been more likely to deploy nuclear weapons / WMD first, to deal with the strategic numerical advantage the Russians and Soviets had. Realistically, the role of NATO would have been to buy sufficient time for a full scale US deployment.

In all likelihood, an the difference in destruction between an all out war between NATO and the Soviet Union, even without going nuclear would have been completely devastating on a scale that wouldn't have been much less catastrophic than a nuclear exchange.

WWII absolutely savaged large parts of Europe and created massive human misery - If the RAF could achieve Dresden on the military technology of the time, modern militaries could achieve the same kind of destruction as nuclear war heads, using conventional weaponry.

It would in fact not just be an act of war, but a war crime (as nerve agents and chemical weapons are banned under the Geneva convention).

Thing is, that not that many countries have access to and capacity to deploy nerve agents in a localised manner. Interestingly though, this was also how the brother of the North Korean leader was murdered a year or two back.

Doubt it. If it was a nerve agent then it was likely done by placing it in contact with his skin or as an aerosol like the assassination of Kim Jong's cousin last year. This would explain how the first responders became sick on contact with Skirpal (i don't think this is possible if he'd ingested a substance).

Unless you are expecting to be assassinated by a nation state then i don't think you have much to worry about. You can't exactly knock VX up in a shed.
