The key issue for most is whether we can rid ourselves of freedom of movement and retain membership to the single market.
If we sit back long enough, I suspect that other countries in Europe will come around to our way of thinking. The average voter in Europe doesn't think that differently to us, well except for our Metropolitan liberal scoffers who ignore popular opinion and think they know it all. Many Europeans also suffer from the negative side of immigration and have a mistrust of Brussels. The ballot box might well have an influence on negotiations.

If you have a disike of foreigners, then the single market is not for you.

Freedom of movement is essential for the single market, it is a technical issue, not a preference, and the two cannot and will not be seperated. Just get used to it.

Yup.

Now don't tell me that all of those 52% voted on immigration and single market issues. That would be highly unfeasible.

So unlikely to be 52% and unlikely to be most.

To be fair, it's more like 70% who want to put the breaks on immigration if memory serves. I would however agree that people's reasons for voting Brexit are probably more complex in some cases.

If that were the case then some would argue that saying goodbye to both would be the least damaging option in the long term..

Yes some indeed. Those that have a dislike of foreigners.

It is the case by the way, as will be revealed with a "hard" Brexit, whenever that happens.

If someone says Brexit is all about the dislike of foreigners, you can be very confident you are listening to a remain voter......

Would be interesting to know the views on the 48.1% who voted to remain too. Do they all agree with the current arrangements around free movement and free trade. I wonder how many only voted to remain reluctantly because they were worried about their jobs or nervous of change?
