48 teams means multi country bids will be the norm from now on. No one country could handle that amount of games on their own. I wouldn't be surprised if an Australia/NZ/Indonesia bid is made for 2030 (the latter are into football and their economy is expected to explode in the next 15 years or so). As for us maybe we could make a '6 nations' bid with the British sides plus ROI, France, Italy.

lol trio of Mexican hostings since England held it.

If there is any sense, Fifa will find a way to pie off Qatar and bring it home in 2022.

I'd say we are the only country that could.

We have 15 stadiums no problem. All over 35,000 or just below. If you throw in Ibrox/Celtic Park/Hampden/Millenium stadium if we need a UK bid the 15 would all be over 40,000.

Wembley Stadium
Old Trafford
London Stadium
Emirates Stadium
Etihad Stadium
Anfield
St James' Park
Stadium of Light
Villa Park
Stamford Bridge
Goodison Park
Hillsborough Stadium
Elland Road
Riverside Stadium
Pride Park Stadium

Checking query as there wasn't a world cup in 1968 and I don't remember the Soviet Union bidding for either 66 or 70. There's also there's a difference between underhand and corrupt. But in these situations there has to be a recipient and the sooner the Warners, Platinis and Blatters of this world go to jail the better. Well done Russia for timing it. Shame on us for being quite so naÔve. Also the double award meant that Qatar took most of the follow-up heat.

But please do not pretend that the award of the tournament isn't tainted.

The US can do it every time. We got over 100 stadiums with a capacity of 50,000+.

48 teams will mean a few grounds might be empty if they are not careful.

I don't think fans paying £200 plus a ticket (by then) will enjoy the Arthur facilities.

USA have a 34 stadium shortlist to pick their ten stadium from. Why didn't they just bid on their own?

Because the Mexicans wouldn't have been able to compete due to the wall being built. This way they can compete and be eliminated Early

Although to be fair one of those was as an Emergency step in as Columbia had to forfeit it.

Centenary will be 2030 so should go to Uruguay as first hosts. Have every nation thatís ever competed in the finals. Difficult for W Germany and FY Republics tho.

Maradona continues being a clown:

Quote:
Argentina legend Diego Maradona says he does not like the decision to have Mexico, Canada and the United States host the 2026 World Cup, decrying the countries' lack of success and passion for the sport.

"I don't like it," Maradona told Telesur. "Mexico doesn't deserve it. The Mexicans come up against Brazil or Germany... and 'boom,' they're out."

The 57-year-old also took issue with Canada and the U.S., recalling a proposal ahead of the American-hosted 1994 World Cup from then-FIFA president Joao Havelange that would have split games into quarters to allow for more television commercials.

"There's no passion," Maradona said. "The Canadians may be good skiers, and the Americans wanted to have four periods of 25 [minutes] for the advertising."

Not sure it has the infrastructure, as lovely as the place appears. I mean, its likely to be, what, 64 team final by then?
