Probably the best forward England has ever produced but hey let's call him a **** anyway.

I once saw "greavsie" at la manga (yes i won the ron noades villa for one week - or rather a villa above a restaurant which was in the middle of redecoration - thanks ron). Gave him a cheerful "give us a wave jim" across the road and got the old fist behind the arm salute.

Good call about it being precious just to see your team's goals on the telly. I used to video every snippet of Palace stuff, wherever it was.
The arrival of BSB Sports Channel in 1989-90 (pre-merger with Sky) was a godsend as they had very little stuff to show but what they did have access to was the Palace 4-3 semi final. Seemed like the whole of April and May 1990 they showed that 20 times in various highlight packages/analysis programmes with Andy Gray/reports from the training ground interviewing the players about it. This was in the days when the FA Cup was still massive and for us to have beaten all conquering Liverpool in the manner we did was a massive deal. As for Saint and Greavsie I liked them at the time because it was all we had but looking at it now, I get why people got annoyed with them. |

Used to watch it religiously before setting off to Selhurst Park to stand in the Sainsburys Terrace when I was a kid. Seemed a decent show at the time but I bet it's aged terribly.
It's a funnny old gaaaaame Saint....

Were they any worse than Shearer and Lawro? Pretty similar I'd say, a couple of retired players, barely articulate and lazy. Little research into the game, except reading the back page headlines of the Sun and trotting out a litany of cliches.

I think they delayed the onset of my puberty as my testicles kept retracting every time they came on. Bob Wilson was the worst though - he pretended to be all professional. Things are no better now - at least on terrestrial

Same rubbish that Skinner and Baddiel served up a decade later.
Laugh? - I thought I'd never start.

Think Soccer Am has it over them in the forced humour stakes and as for the hyped up audience....
