Just a decent pro, lol.

He got the year end world number 1, only 17 players have done that since 1973. His 41 weeks as world number 1, is the 14th most since 1973. His 11 singles final appearances is the joint 9th most in open era.

He may be a lot of things but just a decent pro, he ain't, he's above that.

He's giving it a go today.

Lost the first two sets 4-6, but has won the next two sets on tie-breaks.

Bowed out the most dogged way possible. As if there'd be another way. He managed to wrestle some element of 'his terms' back into his exit from the sport. Very well done to him.

The Melbourne crowd were excellent too.

Now, Andy should go and enjoy that gorgeous wife of his and enjoy getting to be around his daughter as she grows up.

Plus of course his two Olympic golds. Just that alone puts him in a small club of British sports people.

But he hasn't retired tho. He seems to have confused people.

Listening to certain comments after the match yesterday, I think its unlikely he plays Wimbledon.

A couple of the UK's leading tennis journo's were saving after the match how difficult Murray was finding it to just walk to the press conference. He even admitted if he had won, he wouldn't have been able to play a second round match.

He basically decided yesterday to empty the tank for one last hurrah and he did that. It was probably the best defeat of his career.

I think he'll announce in the next week that he will have this second operation, which is hip re-surfacing (which apparently is the last resort before having a full hip replacement).

Pains me to say it but his career is over. He won't admit it until he attempts (in private) after this next op to make one last comeback, but I can't imagine it will be possible.

I think he may get to Wimbledon for his swansong but would be surprised if he carried on after. Even if the surgery improved his situation from now - I'd be amazed if it could allow him to do to his body what he needed to in order to wrestle some majors from the top guys. If he can't get to those heights, I don't think he'd settle for a career of mediocre hereafter.
