Have any of you guys tried out the subscription arbitrage services (e.g. To view the link you have to Register or Login)?
For those of you who are unaware, arbitrage involves finding two bookies whose odds are so divergent that you can place a bet with each and know that you will end up with a cash positive net result. E.g. *** For simplicity, this example ignores draws *** If Palace are playing Liverpool a local SE bookie might offer 2/1 on Palace and 1/3 on Liverpool. In Scouse City, however, local money might mean that the odds might be 4/1 Palace and 1/2 Liverpool. If you backed Palace in the Liverpool bookie 's and Liverpool in the S. Norwood bookies, each at £100 you would be guaranteed a win: £100 * Palace @ 4/1 = +400 if Palace win, -100 if Palace lose £300 * L'pool @ 1/2 = -300 if Palace win , +150 if Palace lose = Net £100 if Palace win, Net £50 if Palace lose. *** As I said earlier, for simplicity, this example ignores draws *** At present, I try to focus most of my bets to situations where I know I will be able to arbitrage nicely. e.g. for a £45 initial stake, I have worked myself into a position where I will win £68.50 if England win the VB Cup in Australia, and will make £5 if either Aus or SL win. At present, I use my own research to discover/manipulate my arbitrage positions, but I don't really have the time and was wondering if anyone had tried out sites such as To view the link you have to Register or Login (P.S. Occasionally, my heart gets the better of my brain and I go for bets such as £20 on Palace to win 3-1 vs. Burnley tomorrow at 14/1 !!!) (P.P.S. I also have £50 on Palace at 300/1 to win the FA Cup. Given that I could now lay them at 220/1 that would give me a guaranteed return of £4,000 if Palace win, and no downside if Palace (by some miracle) fail to win the cup.. Should I wait until after we beat the Scousers before I lay Palace? I reckon that after such a result Palace would reduce to (say) 80/1 for the cup, which effectively represents odds of 220/80 (i.e. just under 3/1 for the Palace win) for the Palace win...

I'll have a read of that when I'm sober. Sounds interesting but do you need to be a maths genius to actually make any money??

i like the sports arbitage bit...will look into it, but one needs much funding to reap real benefit...

Quote:
Put simply, in a two team competiton (with no draw available) if you can find odds of x on Team A winning and y on Team B winning, then you are guaranteed a return if (x-1) * (y-1) > 1. So, if Team A are quoted at 1.25 and (4/1 on) and Team B are quoted at 6 (5/1) then by backing each to win, say £100 (inc. stake), you are guaranteed a win as (0.25 * 5) = 1.25 which is greater than 1. You would need to put £80 on Team A to win, and £16.67 on Team B to win. Then if Team A won, you would make 20-16.67 = £3.33. If Team B won, you would make 83.33 - 80 = £3.33. The downsides of arbitrage are: i) finding the opportunities in the first place, ii) placing the bets in time, iii) the fact that you are typically working with fairly small margins and consequently, if placing bets with multiple bookies, you might need quite a bit of cash on deposit to guarantee you having enough credit to place the bets

cakehoover, i like it, although as i said, and you confirmed, you need a big cash pile to collect, us sports would be goo for you, no draw...
tonight i reckon baddeley can stall off ernie els, he has a 2 shot lead and is all class, 2.20 is great odds to take the tournament... mons should beat beveren in belgium. had a lucky win last night in n.z golf, had campbell going for a BIG result, went to bed, after 6 holes he was down by 3, his partner disintegrated on the back 9 giving me a 1 shot win, and much of this weeks losses back ! also like nalbandian to beat federer tonight and youznhy to beat roddick both at odds !

Evening Oz
Took 2.34 on Baddeley on your advice. I couldn't believe that Els was 2.28 so you could back them both and guarantee a profit. They are 5 clear and without any real names in the pack. Di Marco 20/1 and 32/1 bar I broke my own rules yesterday and backed Chelsea so my 100% since joining this thread has gone! I must stop betting with my heart. I don't like Chelsea but boy do I hate Man U!!! |

the kid did go one under, els went 3 under ?
els holed a 30 footer to win it, after baddeley had birdied the last to take it to a play off, remember els is no.2 in the world. baddeley first event on the US tour.....the future is bright. he's a confidence player, back him in the next 3 ball he plays, probably this Thursday !

baddeley is $34 to win in phoenix, unlikely, however, the $9.25 the top 4 looks good ? cash in on the lad whilst he's hot, he will prove to be the bollox over time.
