If it wins, the bookies will take until next year to recover - they've had a pounding this week.

Knocking bet this weekend.
Now I know I couldn't be in worse form on the horses or football, but I have a stonker for you (no, not that sort of stonker !). Stoke V SHEFFIELD UTD, the Blades are a massive 2.25 with Paddy Power. Seems a silly price to me. Apart from the contrasting positions in the league, Sheffield Utd have an Excellent record home and away against Stoke.
Thoughts on this, and on the weekend ? Was very very tempted to back Palace.

A "CATACLYSMIC" Cheltenham Festival could have cost the major bookmakers in the region of £20 million according to one industry spokesman.
Following a string of heavily backed winning favourites (nine outright and one joint-favourite) , many layers were last night in resigned despair, with Nick Jones, head trader with Fred Done, describing the meeting as like a "slow death". "God only knows what it has cost the industry, probably in the region of £20 million," said Jones. "I'm struggling to put into words just how badly we have sunk. We ourselves have felt it even more than the Big Three as we were offering special bonuses. It's killed us. "We must have lost comfortably over £1 million over the three days and I reckon today's results alone have cost us £500,000. "We recently laid a £50,000 ante-post bet on Best Mate and Fred was keen to lay the horse again today. I'm just glad the end of the financial year is around the corner so we can start again from scratch." Ladbrokes' spokesman Sean Boyce agreed that the meeting had gone the way of the punters. He said: "Have we lost money? Yes. However, what you lose on the swings you gain on the roundabouts and a lot of the money will go straight back into circulation." Betting exchanges experienced problems for the first time at the Festival on Thursday with industry leader Betfair being forced to stop in-running betting on the Gold Cup and Betdaq crashing for three hours. Betfair spokesman Mark Davies, whose organisation matched bets to a total of £25 million over the three days, said: "Just as it came to the off of the Gold Cup the site started to run slow so we splashed and prevented betting in-running during the race. "That was a shame but, placed in context with the fact that the Tote went down twice today and once on Tuesday, we're delighted that, overall, the site has performed as well as ever. All in all, we have had a fantastic Festival." |
