When L&G were based in Kingswood, I know people who commuted from Beckenham and Gants Hill to get there. Again, Central London would be far better for them.

So this idea that moving offices out of London alleviates commuting is just a myth.
Of course, as I said, it doesn't suit all situations, but modern coms provide huge flexibility that we seem really slow to embrace effectively. I'd guess a mix of reluctance, suspicion and failure to invest. My brother has been commuting to a very good university job in WC2 from Reigate for six months and he's already had enough and has applications in for more highly paid jobs nearer home, without the stress, discomfort and cost of the daily commuting lottery.

EDF has moved its staff on Hinkley Point C from Central London to the middle of Bristol. Surely this means that none of these staff will have to commute by Southern. Result.

We had issues around health and safety and data protection.

Is the home workers desk/chair suitable, is the lighting OK, do they have suitable home insurance, is the computer encrypted and secure, can we stop them leaving unsecure paperwork at home, does the broadband supplier allow commercial access, do they have fire extinguishers?

Lots of boxes that needed ticking, but that's typical of a corporate regulated company I guess.

There is a covenant on my property which stops most kinds of business from being carried out on the land. It would stop many people from being able to live in my house and carry out work from home (assuming they complied with the covenant).

Think it was mentioned 2 years ago when it happened, and also subsequently. Only coming to trial now. Still DOO is safer, isn't it.

Let's wait and see. If the driver didn't check properly, it's his fault. If the image wasn't clear, I'll take your point.

Platform cctv images, not in cab ones. Useless once the train has passed the monitor unless the driver has his head outside the window looking back. And impossible if a right sided platform. Difficulty far worse if a train in multiple. Hopefully some sort of common sense prevails.

well a guard would have seen it.

The company should be on trial, not the driver.

Interlock is less than idiot passenger proof. Hence the need for 2 staff members on every train.

It's hard to tell if a passenger is pressing a door button after the door has closed or has a hand stuck in the door.

Southern Railway bastards

What it does tell drivers that the interlock system isn't to be relied on. At least we have top quality cctv so we can see passengers.

theres is a tiny little gap between the closed doors mainly due to the strips of rubber.....(which wont hurt you when the doors close as much as bare metal would!) Therefore handbags, coat toggles and things like that can get caught
