I would argue they came sequentially. Pulis kept us up in the most difficult circumstances weve probably had since promotion. Since then Zaha has come into his own and been the player we solely rely on to create, score and win games.

The lack of plan B has been an issue since promotion (a point Ive made before on here more than I care to remember).

This thread makes me sufficiently cross that for once I am struggling to put my anger into words. That there's a poll makes it even worse.

Yes we are back in the bottom three again. Yes this season has been a litany of **** ups and indeed part of me thinks that relegation would be a sufficiently expensive kick up the arse to the grown-ups, particularly the new ones, to remind them that they may just want to take things a bit more seriously. However, notwithstanding we are well in touch despite ourselves - so in no way is this a rah rah post.

So this being said, why the **** is there a debate and indeed a poll apportioning blame to something that hasn't happened? "Who is most to blame if we go down". Jesus, have we really got to this? Has everyone just given up? If people are this resigned to failure then fine, we're all to blame.

But pre-judging? FFS. Get a grip. Why instead don't we debate who's responsible for the next nuclear exchange or better still, let's all queue up outside a cemetary. This is what this thread is akin to.

If it happens there will be plenty of low flying shit. But we're not there yet. Where the bloody hell has the fight gone to?

Seems Parish went from astute signing to vanity projects once he had someone else's money to spend, and then went his ego to another level that has clouded his judgement and thought process for the past three seasons..

Would you be happier if the thread title read "Who is responsible for the predicament the club is in"? It means exactly the same thing

That team and those options from the bench should comfortable be between 7th and 14th.

Despite the craziness of FDB, the inbalanced squad and lopsided transfer windows it is without doubt that it is injuries that have been our undoing.

We actually have our best squad since the Thomas, Gray, Martyn, Thorne, Wright, Bright, Salako era
You are right to say we would be mid-table if we had anything like the luck Bright*n have had avoiding injuries and we have been hammered in those areas where we established very good cover, such as across the back four.

But we all knew Wickham was crocked when the season started and since when have you been able to count of Wickham to stay fit? Yes, Benteke's collapse was impossible to predict but we left ourselves open to it happening, as unlikely as that was.

And the traditional unwillingness to spend to construct a midfield able to take some of the creative weight off the wingers' shoulders was once again proven. Renting a Chelski sick note instead of buying an established AM was a risk we willingly took and it has bitten us on the arse just as providing no back up to Benteke did. Worse still, it prevented FDB's system having any real cutting edge, led to the entire experiment failing and us giving the division a seven game head start. Again, de-investment in a crucial area that we have always ignored has hit us again, especially after Wilf's injuries and that was a risk the club took.

As for the GK debacle, we were rightly punished with points dropped by clangers.

All in all, injuries put us where we are. But a ST / AM and GK from minute one would have made us pretty much bulletproof. We have been desperately unlucky but we did the minimum to mitigate against fate in crucial areas.

We are 6 points shy simply on the 2 missed penalties. But that's water under the bridge.

We don't go down till after the Fat Lady stops singing, but there is a creeping sense of inevitability about it, which those of us who have had the privilege of senior years suporting this club, will feel in our bones.

We have already exceeded all previous lengths of stay in the top flight in our club's history, and yet we are still playing in the same lovable but hopelessly ill-equipped stadium we've been at for most of our club's history.

We are unable to accommodate the huge crowds we once did in the cradle of football, and we have had quite a lot of extreme financial turbulence in the past 25 years or so of our history, so we have not been able to benefit from vast increased income through attendances. Remember the 52,000 versus Burnley? We can't get more than 24,500 versus Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U or any of the 'Top Teams' today.

But we have fought the brave fight. We have defied popular opinion and caused some memorable upsets. I don't suppose Steve Gerrard is going to forget us in a hurry, nor are Chelsea. We've beat the Spurs, the Arsenal, Liverpool. We had another stab at the FA Cup - so close once again.

We had the sheer pleasure of getting into the Prem this time around via the fantastic 0-2 against our dear old friends, the Seaweeds.

It's been great stuff being in the world's most famous football division, but strangely, rather than capitalise we might have more or less run out of steam.

Our supporters, all of us, not just the HF but due credit to them as well, have stamped our club's fanbase and identity firmly on the world of TV football viewers, as well as anyone who has ever seen us play at their ground.

We've witnessed some great football. We've had some of the world's best footballing stars play on our sacred turf.

However we are in desperate need of a club re-build in many senses - we need investment in our beloved stadium; we need a vast improvement to our youth system; we need a close look at our fitness and training systems. We need to take a deep breath and build things up.

We are not in some sort of downward spiral of doom like Cov, Clowntown, the Seaweeds, or Pompey. We might have been, but thanks to CPFC 2010, us fans and the global financial crisis, as well as all the heroic efforts of our players and staff, we are not in a spiral of doom.

The club has still historically spent more of its time in the lower Divisions of the Football League than the upper ones, but we have now balanced that out very seriously and I would like to know how many years in total we have spent in the Old Div I and II, the Prem and The Championship compared to Div III, Div IV (I'm not sure we have ever been in Div IV) and Div III South.

Maybe we'll survive once more this season by the skin of our teeth. We certainly used to be amongst the most hardened and experienced of clubs at relegation battles. Supporting Palace and facing relegation went hand in hand when I started following the Palace.

But many of those relegation survivalist battles were against the likes of Stockport County, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic. Now we face a taller order. I'm not sure we have the necessary talent to do it. I hope and pray we do. But one thing is for certain - were it to happen, relegation would not be so bad for us, and it might, again, if it were to happen, be no bad thing.

I don't think we need all the doom and gloom.

We need one 'shock' win against one of the top clubs to turn everything around and make everybody believe again.

Why not on Monday?

If it isn't on Monday, it won't be the end of the world.

I don't believe relegation is inevitable.

- Injuries
- Employing De Boer and attempting to change our style of football to that of something nobody else does in the league
- Marquee striker having an exceptionally poor season
- Bizarre transfer windows which seemed to lack any planning
- the strength of other teams fighting relegation this year

We’ve spent 5 years going against the ethos of the Club.

If by some miracle we stay up, I’d be ridding the club of those on ridiculous wages and looking for the rough diamonds and young players that we should’ve been signing and developing all along.

Invest in Coaches who can polish the diamonds and sell them on.

No more ridiculous wages for a club our size. Stop getting blinded by the likes of Benteke (who multiple people warned that players do not come back to their best after his long term injury) and Sakho, who we paid 30m for despite their being very little other interest.

If we fight our way out of this, we need a lot of players in and out. And I hope this recruitment is left to the scouts, Dougie and Roy (who I pray stays either way as he’s been dealt a rotten hand repeatedly).

The fact is that we would have been back down several years back if we weren't lucky enough to find a couple of quality managers available to keep us up. In fact, we have had three of the best British managers available and lost two of them through lack of ambition. Roy will be next.
I guarantee that if we stay up this season, Parish will be doing the same crap in the summer.
You sit in on the deals do you?

No injuries we're upper mid table.

Injuries have crippled us.

Exactly right. Thats what a 'squad' is for. Albeit the injuries are beyond the norm this season. If we had better planned the transfer windows we would have been in a far better position. This comes solely down to the board.

That and having no suitable replacements for the injured.

Spot On.
