He said that there were a lot of things that need to be changed to make the club an established Premier League club. Rumours in the press were that he would walk if he wasn't happy with the outcome of that conversation. He stayed on following that discussion, but we bought no one of any note that summer and Pulis even played Murray at centre half in a pre-season friendly before walking out in August.

To be fair to Parish though that's a well known component of Pulis' modus operandi. Drop hints in the press that the squad needs further investment and see if the Board blinks first. Many of us on here a couple of years back were speculating that he was trying to get himself sacked from WBA when he started prattling on about his squad being light, he can only work with what resources he is given etc etc

Just listened to the podcast. Thought it was a good interview and Hambo & SP both came across well.

Still can't wrap my head around those that have an agenda against SP. Still currently enjoying our most successful stint in the Premier League ever in no small part because of SP.

Parish got loads of praise when he re-signed Wilf. Not sure what he's moaning about there.

I think Pardew put up with it as he is mates with Parish but it didn't help him as he took the fall not Parish. Parish said last night that he "couldn't remember" the Defoe conversation. I wasn't convinced

Then it did not matter what SP said as you have made your mind up. Why do some fans still take a proven liars side rather then the man who helped save the club. SP has made mistakes and you can bet he will continue to make them but i would not question his honesty and his desire to make us as good as we can be on and off the pitch.

SP said we matched Sunderland for the Defoe deal but he wanted to play under Gus Poyet who he already knew.

Notjing wrong with wanting improvement year on year..this has stopped happening. Fans have got a right to be upset....it doesnt 'feel' like our most successful stint though

Before Pulis left we'd signed Kelly, Hangeland, Kettings and Campbell - so to say we hadn't signed anyone isn't true

The 32-year-old has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light having been convinced to head to the north-east by former Tottenham coach Gus Poyet, who he played under at White Hart Lane.

Black Cats manager Gus Poyet said he was thrilled to have signed the former Tottenham striker

The Black Cats managed to beat off competition from a series of Barclays Premier League rivals, including Crystal Palace and QPR, to acquire Defoe's services, and sporting director Lee Congerton was thrilled to see his hard work finally come to fruition.

I said we bought "no one of any note". None of the above turned out to be good signings for us. I don't even know who Kettings is?! And weren't Campbell and Hangeland out of contract? Hangeland was something like 36!

Bit harsh that. Hangeland in his first season was a fine player when called upon. Kelly, has done a job, much as Parish pointed out in the interview. Players are not necessarily there to start every match, but provide cover and padding for the squad. Campbell likewise.

Who were they replacing, Marriappa and Jerome wasn't it. Jerome i thought was underrated with us, but still in the same talent pool as Campbell, Marriapa - kelly: not much in that, pretty much like for like really.

There was still big signings to come in that window, it was them that Pulis and Parish fell out over. Pulis wanted Crouch and Jonathan Walters and probably a couple more. Ultimately we signed MacArthur and Zaha as big signings, both have been excellent.

Its not true that we didn't sign anyone before he walked

Now amending it to anyone of note is an entirely different statement
