Building a new 40,000+ seater for a PL club on a new site simply wouldn't get permission in Croydon or Bromley IMO.

I still think Selhurst Park is the only way forward.

That's correct Wycombe. IF 2010 had signed the "Embarrassment" clause then the sale of Selhurst Park would have given them the money they paid back and the profits to Lloyds! So a very shrewd deal it was. Ash.

Article online. Council and Sainsburys need to play ball.

Think it's time for the supporters to help IMO. We need to influence the council.

Sounds like Sainsbury's are playing hardball. Can feel another Lloyds bank type situation coming up.

Liked this bit from SP:

"I've got an amazing 3D model of the stadium, the new stand. It's all there ready to go. We just need to make sure we've got everybody behind us."

Not surprised that Sainsbury's commercial property people play hardball. To a certain extent that's their job. But very disappointing if the Council lack the drive and vision to help and support this enterprise. There is so much good PR, goodwill, jobs and secondary income for the area if they help drive through the plans.
I hope Parish has lobbied other local councils to see if a new brownfield/greenfield site might be possible. If only to give a Croydon a threat that they could lose one of their most prized assets.

Another mysterious leak calling the fans to action!

Sure uncle Ron didn't take this long to come up with a little model

Absolutely, "I'm not one of those sorts of people who goes for PR stunts" but "we've got some meetings in the next couple of weeks" so if we could bring some pressure to bear.

Some of this interview is quite remarkable:

firstly its much more coherent than his 'I've only just realised we're in a relegation battle'-interview he presumably gave to the Adder at the same time;

it is notable that he says he doesn't fully understand the positions of the Council and Sainsburys. After 6 years of talks...;

and also notable that he calls it a "high-risk financial project" - I thought the American money was supposed to be ringfenced for development of the stadium?.

For me I think there is a good chance that he is also using this to prep supporters for failure, and looking to shift responsibility for that failure to the Council and Sainsburys - rather than the fact he has sleepwalked into relegation.

Sounds like a take over of Sainsburys Twitter feed and weekly Saturday morning protests picketing Sainsburys every Saturday morning while they are still open on Matchdays until they start being more helpful could be useful depending on this weeks meetings.

Meanwhile in the real world, Parish helps matters tremendously by slagging off the Mayor over his reasonable comments about the London Living Wage. Way to go Steve...

It kind of takes a few reads through to get the gist of what he is driving at.

CPFC/the architects are talking to Sainsbury's at the moment (good), but presumably Sainos are undecided as to what their long term plan is for the whole site that they own, presumably whether or not they demolish the store and put in something different, maybe elsewhere on the campus (ie the right scale for the level of custom which they attract there)

He talks about physical obstacles (presumably the Wooderson Close housing and the supermarket) but also that Sainsburys need to make a decision, so I am guessing SP is more optimistic about sorting the housing which is in the way as it doesn't sound like he is putting quite so much pressure on the council at the moment as he is Sainsburys

Reading between the lines, SP needs to know just how much Sainsbury's landspace we can get an agreement to use, before he can go to Croydon Council and say 'can we remove X, Y and possibly Z houses' to make it a reality.

It would seem the 3D model that SP has is on the more ambitious scale and he is trying to exert pressure to get that, but presumably at some point if Sainsburys don't make their minds up, then he may have to do whatever is possible without them on board, ie a much more 'squeezed in' solution, which probably wouldn't have all the corporate space (lounges and restaurants) out the back, which would be possible with a bit more landspace.

I realise that this is incredibly complicated situation due to the amount of interested parties that are involved. But, you cannot help but think that it could have been a lot more simpler had the parties involved been more willing to sort things out.

1. Croydon Council ask for a very large amount of money to move the occupants of Wooderson Close somewhere near by and the properties are demolished.
2. Sainsburys are given the first option to build a new store in the current car park using underground and surface space, depending on the size of store they want underground can be a car park or additional space.
3. The current store and surrounding buildings are demolished.
4. The main stand is re-built
5. The fans of the WHL and new Corporate facilities are moved into the Main Stand
6. The WHL is knocked down and re-built.

I have done lots of diagrams and what not on how Sainsburys can have a bigger two level store at the "back" of the car park closer to Clifton Road - the size is there, it just takes people to agree that a redevelopment is the best option for everyone.
