Yep. The same stumbling blocks remain, it seems. I would agree with Gollum, after pressing Croydon about the feasibility of developing the Selhurst Triangle site instead. That would seem to have the least amount of planning red tape attached to it, especially if they were offered the possibility of a school on the Selhurst park site. Personally the Selhurst experience has been pretty dreadful with the lights and the results, one new expensive bodge of a stand while doing nothing about the Arthur wait seems the wrong direction to be going in to me. New stadiums are much cheaper to build, and there are plenty of mistakes to be hopefully learned from.

I'd get the Germans in.

1. Croydon Council ask for a very large amount of money to move the occupants of Wooderson Close somewhere near by and the properties are demolished.
2. Sainsburys are given the first option to build a new store in the current car park using underground and surface space, depending on the size of store they want underground can be a car park or additional space.
3. The current store and surrounding buildings are demolished.
4. The main stand is re-built
5. The fans of the WHL and new Corporate facilities are moved into the Main Stand
6. The WHL is knocked down and re-built.

I have done lots of diagrams and what not on how Sainsburys can have a bigger two level store at the "back" of the car park closer to Clifton Road - the size is there, it just takes people to agree that a redevelopment is the best option for everyone.
Agree with pretty much all of this.

It does seem amazing that the club has known about the issue with the nearest Wooderson Close houses for well over 20 years (from a view of wanting to have a bigger Main Stand) and yet nobody has ever got round to waving an enormous wad of money at the problem. In the overall cost of building a top spec stand, removing the 'obstacle' of those houses would still be a small percentage, so lets crack on with it.

Obviously the remaining issue is Sainsbury's and it is very positive that we are in talks with them, both SP and Sainsburys have admitted to this in the article (you did wonder sometimes, as wasn't SP hoping to be able to show us something last summer?)

My interpretation is that SP seems to be suggesting that Sainsbury's don't really know what they want, and Palace urgently just want to get on with it so we can decide if we are going to try for the "full on" Anfield-lite Main Stand which he wants, or whether we have to just try and push on for planning permission from the Council for the best we can squeeze in on the land without Sainsbury's say-so.

I would like to think Harris and Blitzer are as impatient about all this as the rest of us are, and maybe they are providing some kicks up backsides??

This issue could really unite the fanbase again. The best bet is an organised boycott of Sainsbury's. Hit them in the pocket until they play ball.

The twats at the council have always viewed Palace as a hindrance. I assumed their twattery would be because they're a bunch of Tories, but having looked it up it's a Labour majority.

Start with leaving unexpected items in the bagging area and ratchet up the pressure from there...

If the site becomes unprofitable, the value of the lease will also fall (no alternative use for the premises). They'll be desperate to exit a loss making site for free!

Or alternatively desperate to recoup their outlay by selling the executive carpark for housing.

Reading the article was interesting in many ways, firstly as fans we feel a real frustration that for the past 40 odd years we have waited patiently and been told by various chairmen of plans for a new Main Stand at the very least was to be built, remember seeing plans when attending a meeting at CPP, but so far all to no avail for one reason or another.
So after all this time is it any wonder that loyal fans are asking what has gone wrong and why there appears so much non co-operation from Sainsbury and Croydon Council, as surely some form of compromise could be reached at the very least into building a new Main Stand. As there are clubs around the Country that have overcome what seems far bigger obstacles when submitting plans, can the Council not see this as a project that would benefit ALL concerned but also make CPFC Stadium one fit to grace the premiership, but also the name of Croydon gets highlighted with the publicity and exposure football gets when televised World wide.
Take Tottenham as an example along with soon to be Chelsea's stadium plans for building in a far more exclusive location, yet getting Council and residents approval for what one would have thought were far bigger objections to overcome than the ones Palace are encountering currently.
So i completely sympathise with Steve Parish's frustrations shown in the article when he says he feels that no proper progress is being made after all this time, i don't see it as an excuse by him to fob off fans, but genuinely believe he wants it to happen as much as we fans do, but keeps coming up against a brick wall.
You do have to wonder as a last resort if at some stage with no progress being made, should SP call Croydon Council's bluff and even Sainsbury's and look outside of the borough, not the ideal solution but in the hope it will spring them into rethinking, as surely this wait can't drag on for another 40 years.

Isn't it fairly common knowledge that the store is already making big losses compared to others? Certainly, in the grand scheme of things bigger supermarkets are big loss making buildings these days.

The increase in consumer choice via Aldi, Lidl, Co-Op, Iceland & Spar smaller stores that are more frequent in number but smaller in size make more money. Consumer shopping habits have changed in recent years as well wanting to shop little and often instead of the traditional big weekly shop.

For those reasons I do not understand why Sainsbury's would want to build a new supermarket at that location, I would think it would make more sense for them to build a "half-sized" store, keep the petrol station, add a click and collect service in a separate building next door where people can just drive in, collect some boxes, drive off again but, still have a large enough floorspace to keep "everything" but just in half-numbers.

It also appears that Sainsbury's are now developing a bit of a pattern in being problematic to help football clubs, link above is from Aug. 2016 at the start of this season in Middlesbrough. Essentially, on nearby land Sainsburys purchased and built on some land but never opened the store. As people were parking anywhere they could fit the question was raised as to why the hundreds of spaces in their car park couldn't be used. But, the proposal was rejected on "health and safety" grounds.

Unrealistic I'm afraid as 1: not enough of our fan base live in the area anymore for it to work imo. 2: the store has increased its takings considerably over last few years.

If this round of talks doesn't get anywhere then SP might as well just go public with his drawings and take everyone on. Being patient can only last for so long. With £100m to play we might as well have showed our hand already anyway.
