Bradford travel bulletin

Bradford v Palace
Wednesday 19th February 2003 KO 7.45pm
(Re-arranged from the postponed game on Saturday 11th January 2003 KO 3pm)

Ground Name: Formerly Valley Parade,
Now Called The Bradford & Bingley Stadium
Capacity: 25,000 (all seated)
Address: Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD8 7DY
Main Telephone No: 01274-773-355
Ticket Office: 01274-770022

TICKETS: Cost 15.00 adults, 9.00 concessions (both cheaper than last season), 5.00 under 16’s
Tickets purchased for the original fixture will be valid for the new date.

The away fans are housed in a small 'double decker' type stand at one end of the ground, called the Symphony Stand.
Away fans are housed at one end of the ground in the Symphony Stand where 1,800 supporters can be accommodated. If possible try to get tickets for the upper tier of this stand as the view of the action is far better. On the downside there are a number of supporting pillars in this stand which could well impede your view.
Bradford is situated at a bottom of a valley, down which a rather cold wind normally prevails.

DISABLED FACILITIES:

6 away spaces – (using some of the spaces either on pitchside in the CIBA stand or in a corner of the Symphony Stand. Overflow capacity in the Sunwin Stand) Pitchside positions out in the open.
Parking – 8 marked bays available behind the CIBA stand in Midland Road and operate on a first come first served basis on the orange/blue badge scheme.

For further information contact Gerry Beavers, Ticket Office Manager on 01274 770022, e-mail: bradfordcityfc@compuserve.com

PALACE COACHES:
Depart Holmesdale Road at 12.30am. Cost 19.20 Gold members, 21.60 season ticket holders/members, 24.00 guests.
Anybody who travelled on the coach to Bradford on the original date will be able to travel free of charge for this fixture on production of their original travel ticket. You need to send or take in your ticket to the box office to receive free travel on the coach for the new date.

Travelling by train
For anyone going by train into Bradford Interchange, it’s a 25 min walk to the ground. Either take a taxi (£3.50) or alternatively the bus station is located next to the train station (Bus No's 622, 623, 626 or 662). Supporters travelling via Leeds should catch the Leeds - Bradford Forster Square service (two trains per hour during the day) rather than those to Bradford Interchange. Forster Square is only 10 minutes walk from the ground. Go up the slope to the main road and turn right – keep going until you reach the ground which is on the right just away from the main road down a slope.

GETTING THERE BY CAR

From the North East take A1 southbound to join A1/M1 link then join M62 westbound.
From the South take M1 or A1 northbound to join M62 westbound.

From the North West / West take M6 then M60 Manchester Ring Road to join M62 eastbound then:

From M62 exit at j26
Take M606 towards Bradford
At end of motorway take the last exit onto Rooley Lane (signs Leeds/Bradford Airport). McDonalds is now on your left.Over traffic lights at Asda Superstore and turn left at roundabout into Wakefield Road. Stay in middle lane.Over two roundabouts staying in middle lane (signs to Shipley & Skipton) on to Shipley Airedale Road (A6037) which then becomes Canal Road.Just after Tesco (on left) turn left into Station Road (A6177) and left again into Queens Road. Up hill to third set of traffic lights and turn left into Manningham Lane. After Blue Chip Petrol Station (on left), take first left into Valley Parade for Stadium.

Mostly street parking around the ground.

PLEASE NOTE:
The Administration Offices, Ticket Office and Upfront - the Bradford City Sportstore have all relocated to new premises in Burlington Street, Bradford. Follow the directions as above except turn left before the Blue Chip Petrol Station into Burlington Street.

BUSES TO THE STADIUM
First Bradford and Keighley & District Travel Company operate frequent bus services from Bradford city centre, Bradford Interchange and outlying areas to the Bradford & Bingley Stadium (buses stop on Manningham Lane or Queens Road).

PUBS
There are not that many pubs around the ground. However, there are three hotels with bars, that are about a ten minute walk away from the ground. They are the Park, Cartwright & Oakleigh hotels. Just continue to walk on the main road by the ground away from the town centre and at the traffic lights where the entrance to the park is, turn right and you will see them in a row on your right.
The Oakleigh – 4 Oak Avenue – 01274 544 307, Free House / Mansfield (with guest beers) Large friendly open plan bar with beer garden. Pool. TV. Disabled facilities. Open all day from 12.
The Park is next door, is quieter but also has pool tables and a large beer garden. Accomodation is available at reduced rates for people who mention the football fans guide apparently!!!
Otherwise it is probably wise to drink in the centre or if you are feeling adventurous jump in a taxi and visit the Fighting Cock in Preston St or the New Beehive at the top of Westgate. Both of these pubs serve excellent real ale and are quite a mecca for CAMRA members. The New Beehive is at 171 Westgate – 01274 721 784 – Free house (with guest beers) 6 small rooms, bar snacks served 12 – 2.30, pool, skittle alley, TV, beer garden, childrens room, open all day. Accommodation available.
Haigys Bar on Lumb Lane and a new pub/curry house has just opened called The Valley. It is on Manningham Lane, only a short distance past the ground'.
The Bolton – 1025 Bolton Road (en route from Leeds) 01274 559 021 – Bass (with Caffreys). Bar snacks, TV, open all day.
FOOD

Bradford has some excellent curry houses such as the Kashmir in Morley St and the Mumtaz in Great Horton Road to name but a few. 'The K2 Curry House on Lumb Lane, about five minutes walk from Valley Parade, serves great curries for under £4'. The place to have an authentic curry is the Shiraz or Silver Jubilee on Oak Lane, 10 minutes walk away from the ground above where the Cartwright Hotel is (see where to drink). Three of you can eat for under £15, however, you cannot drink in the Silver Jubilee and you have to take your own into the Shiraz, the nearest off licence is at the bottom of Oak Lane by the Cartwright Hotel'.

The choice around the ground is limited to 2 takeaways on Manningham Lane. The nearest decent curry house is Westgate Tandoori on St Thomas Road but it doesn’t open until 7pm. The Nawaab on Manor Row is popular so it might be useful to book first - 01274 720 371 (not open Saturday lunchtime).

The pies in the ground are all recommended!! Between us I think we tried them all last season!

If you have time, the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television is worth a visit, if only to see one of the short films on it's huge Imax cinema screen. The museum is free to visit, but the Imax costs £5.80 adults, £4 concessions. The films are shown hourly, on the hour.

Thanks for that - it just reminded me that I am yet to book a half days holiday. Must dash!
