Problem is if he performs upto January how he did last season then I think we lose our opportunity to sell. Nobody will take him off our hands with the current wages even for a few million. If we can get £15m for him now then I think we should let him go. We are not going to lump the ball into the box for him to head, Roy is building a more fluid system and we need players who fit that.

His agent has publicly said they are interested but can’t afford what palace are asking. Loaning him makes no sense. Sell or keep.

The nearer he gets to the end of his contract benteke and his agent will see a big pay day maybe his last at that stage in 2 years we would have payed 13 million pound more in wages and get none of our 30 million fee back .Even if we don't get all our fee back we got to get best deal we can it's like trying to sell a car with the engine management light on your hands are tied.

Guess it's just irrelevant interest then. I'm assuming Newport County would quite like Benteke too but they also can't afford him.

Why not just stick electrical tape over the offending bit? I suspecst it might work in both cases.

Or he goes back to his 1 in 2/1 in 3 average across the rest of his career and we look like dick heads for not bringing him through a transitional season.

Compared to most Palace strikers his first year was an aboration cos he scored more than 5 goals. He's returned to the mean..........

I don't think we sell him, in a seasons time or in January if he hasn't adapted and we are still scoring at the rate of 1 or 2 a match then yes.

There's a lot of moaning about lacking a goal scorer but it's bullshit we score almost every match and they are spread out across the team. It's conceding goals that is the huge problem. In the last two seasons if we could defend based on goals scored we'd have come somewhere between 8th and 6th!!!!

Yes I agree, which begs the question, is he suited to our style of football? He is good defensively but is not mobile, we are no longer a team it seems that plays the long ball very often, still counter attacking, yes but with pace. We don't seem to launch balls into the box very often anymore. Is he someone who hold the ball up very well, and can start an attack, that's debatable, too as he just tries to "flick it on" all the time. Is that lack of confidence or technique. I don't know, but the more i seriously think about it, the more players like Josh King, would be more suited to our style of play Oddly enough another big question which we all don't know yet but if Wickham can be the same player, and Sorloth will be as good as his second half performance against Chelsea (which TBF is the only time he has played in his natural position) could suit our new style of play better.

I say sell (especially with his wages)

If he did, it would likely be a change of environment and a system that suits him, more than simply finding form. If you have a striker like Benteke, you have to play to his strengths, and only his strengths to get the best out of him (or so it seems to me).

I still think it's a confidence issue, but that's no good to us, like Crunchie said, he too expensive, especially if he ends up on the bench or having another season like the last. Then to top it off, he'd be worth k'all come the end of next season. A huge risk on our part when we're already teetering on the edges of FFP (I think).

It may even be that the man himself feels he needs to move on, and who could blame him?

Can see us selling him and then failing to bring in a replacement. Seems right up our alley

At a meet and greet at the club Roy has said that Benteke has been horribly taught in the past and needs back to basics coaching to be a complete forward (what we need now that we don't play a target man style of football). I think that's a Roy way of saying that he's only ever been a target man and has gotten by on ability. I think it's fair to say Lukaku and Batshuayi also suffer from this to a lesser extent given the complaints from their previous managers in the UK.

If Benteke shows willing and I think he has given the increase in his defensive contributions, increase in assists and his greater involvement in creating goals then I think Roy will likely keep him at least until Conner/Alexander can show they can at least do the same.

I don't think it's a good idea to sell an asset at a knock down price when they are at their lowest point. It is possible that Benteke will have a very different season next season and come regain his value. We can all have a bad year at work

It depends on what everyone wants really.

We can keep Benteke and get lots of free, loans and a few unknowns from Europe or Sell Benteke and free up some wages and funds.

If he carries on his form from last season 1 of 2 things will happen, and possibly even both.

One we will be near the bottom of the league again. And two, if so, he will be worth the princely sum of £2.50 and a bent curly wurly in January.

Tricky one this. Part of me thinks he couldn’t be any worse than last season- so keep him and hope we see him playing with more purpose and aggression ( like his early days at Villa) and starts banging the goals in - I think that’s the only way we’ll recoup the money we’ve spent.
Having said that if I could swap him for Mitrovic tomorrow and save 50K a week off the wage bill - think I’d take it.
However, if we do sell him we all know he’s gonna go on to score loads of goals for his next club - right..........it’s SO Palace!

His strengths? what strengths? He hade more than enough opportunities to score several goals (sitters) last season and blew them all, including a penalty. No matter what system we play, if our expensive "star striker" cannot find the net from five yards out with plenty of time, and only the goalkeeper to beat, then he has no strengths. In a nutshell, he's no better than all the other useless, lead legged strikers we've courted over recent seasons. SELL and replace with someone who has energy and is willing to put his life on the line.
