Another chance to get into positive territory. The Hull game replaces our 1-0 away defeat to Aston Villa in January. Wilf hit a post in the first minute then it was all downhill culminating in a woeful Hennessey own goal in the second half.
A truly awful game. BBC report here:

Last year...we beat Chelsea and Liverpool away...that is 6 points we will not get this season. We also won away at Watford and got a point vs Arsenal away and Man U. All difficult results to match

Does anyone expect us not to be in the bottom three after 20 games?

It is certainly possible but in the new year we have a long run of games that we could get points from .If we don't then we have had it.

Edit- thought you said expect us to be

Yep, I agree with this. Of course we also lost at home to Watford and Sunderland, which we can hopefully improve on (although I admit I currently have very little confidence

After the Arsenal game I'm banking on 8 straight wins in the New Year which will see us safe

Well we could certainly do with a repeat of our 0-0 draw at home to Man United last season. We had enough chances to win with Yannick hitting the bar early on, however, it was during our good run and United were hardly firing on all cylinders.

Based on that graph.

Therefore Parish needs to act, and pull the trigger.

Apologies I must be trying to blot this thread out. So we narrowly lost to Man United albeit the ref's decisions paid a large part in the final score. Did we deserve to lose by more or would we have got a result if their first goal had been ruled out. Who knows!

As expected we got nothing from the Chelsea home game although we could clearly have defended Costa's winning goal much better.

For the record we were well beat last season 3-0. See BBC report:

Not quite the end of the first half of the season but we can now draw a line under Alan Pardew's reign and hope that Sam Allardyce can come up with the goods.

As it stands we are on course for our worst points total in the first half of the season in our current spell in the Premier League. We need one more to equal the 16 points we achieved in our first two seasons. No surprise that Holloway and then Warnock received the boot and now Pardew has given us a hat trick of managers not making it to the New Year.

We did pick up 4 points from our next two games last season so hopefully today we can get back on track with a result at Watford.

Last season a 1-0 win courtesy of a Cabaye penalty following a trip on Wilf saw us climb to 6th place in the table. BBC reort here:

Another 2 points dropped following our draw with Watford, so we are now on minus 3. Today gives us a chance to claw some of that back but it is Arsenal away. Last season we were somewhat fortunate to come away with a 1-1 draw. Sanchez scored in time added on in the first half and Bolasie equalised with a shot from distance late on. BBC report here:

This time last season pointswise:

Chelsea 20
Norwich 20
Bournemouth 20
Swansea 19
Newcastle 17
Sunderland 12
Villa 8

Swansea eventually finished 12th and Sunderland 17th.

So another point dropped and we finish the first half of the season 4 points adrift compared to the corresponding fixtures from last season. The total of 16 points equals our performance in our first two seasons under Holloway and Warnock.

Looking ahead our record in the Premier League shows that we normally have a good and bad half to each season. Clearly if we have a bad second half to the season we will struggle to avoid relegation. Sunderland have a habit of escaping at the last minute although surely their time is about up. Swansea I am still not sure about.

The only potential good news on the horizon is that we took 4 points from our next 5 games last season. Surely we can improve on that!

Yep, we're level with 13/14 and 14/15 on games played, you have to go to the 04/05 season to find us worse off at the half way point.

Lose tonight and we'll be at our lowest point after 20 games in our current Premier League run.

It's time for the team to show they can beat the curse of the graph.
