Agreed, a front four of Ayew, Benteke, Sorloth and Zaha is going to be ample for us. If, we need to fill spots on the bench then throw a youngster like Daly onto the bench.

Understand your point, just in a weird way feel that he will forever pick up knocks in training/games so better to have him on the bench when fit and on the sidelines when not rather than play the odd game for a Championship side and then be out injured for a few games with them.

No chance Ward would be going on loan, Nixon has just made that up

Recent Premier League record:

2014/15 2772 minutes 5 goals 1 assist (with Sunderland)
2015/16 1324 minutes 5 goals 3 assists
2016/17 410 minutes 2 goals 0 assists
2017/18 not played except for under 23s. At least one first half outing but not sure whether that was it.
2018/19 not played except for 18 minutes pre-season

He is going to have to play somewhere and under 23s is a bit hurly burly!

Pretty sure he played over an hour in one preseason game - Stevenage or Boreham Wood?

Wickham played a total of 78 minutes in pre-season

Replaced SÝrloth after 72 minutes at Reading and played the first 60 minutes at Boreham Wood then he was replaced by Daly

Would rather Sorloth went on loan than Wickham.

Not going to happen. A fully fit and recovered Wickham might be a better player, if he can get back to what he was before the injury. But he's not there now.

Wickham Leeds to play and Palace needs to find out if he can get back to where he was before. A loan yo the Championship is the best of both worlds

A striker probably should go on loan. We have benteke, zaha, ayew, wickham, sorloth, Kaikai with Meyer and Townsend also able to play a role similar to zaha. Obviously we donít want to get that far down the list but we also have strikers that need games.

For me sorloth. He needs games fullstop and isnít at the required level yet. I think heís shown enough he might get there but he needs games.

Wickham needs games but I think everyone knows a major reoccurrence is probably a career ender for him. I donít think Iíd want him sent to a club that wasnít going to wrap him in cotton wool. If he has any hint of a twinge in the next 6 months he comes off. Only palace will do that. Wickham u23 games for conditioning, cup games and on the bench would give us a good chance to see him, protect him and get him back.

As for ward. No ******* chance!! Iíd be absolutely shocked and appalled if he went anywhere. Anyone siting kelly as back up there is ******* insane. Heís emergency cover and a good pro. The defence is weaker with him is as weíve seen in plenty of games, not just him directly but players get pulled out of position covering him also. Weíve seen enough to know that but because he makes a battling sliding tackle in the opposition penalty area thatís all forgotten. I like him but he isnít good enough to be starting many games for us, itís just the truth. Tomkins mooted? Also madness, why breakup an incredible partnership at cb. Weíve not lost a game Tomkins and Sakho start together so why the hell mess with that.

Ward is essential. Heís a brilliant right back defensively ans being kept out of the side by an incredibly exciting young prospect. He will pick up injuries, suspensions and almost certainly lose a bit of form.

Roy has spoken of it and most of all we as Palace fans have seen probably the best example in recent times as to why players losing form need taking out of the side. Benteke... we destroyed him. He had a dip in form and in any other time he drops to the bench and has the pressure taken off. We didnít have anyone, at least until Townsend and zaha evolved into something upfront. He went game after game under the spot light with confidence plummeting until he looked absolutely terrified of getting a chance. He was one of the top strikers in the premiership in recent years and yet he was mentally shattered all because we couldnít take the pressure off, he had to play and it ruined him. Years of being a top player and he still folded... AWB has had a handful of games and no history of being awesome. Ward isnít going to get in the way of AWB, heís absolutely essential to protect him from that.

No idea if they're interested but I reckon Wickham to Ipswich on a season-long loan (with an option to recall) would suit everyone involved.

We seem to have a good relationship with them, he came through their youth system so would settle quickly, they've just flogged three of their best strikers and they have a very good young manager in Paul Hurst.

Recalls don't really work anymore....

Subject to the proviso that the duration of a Standard Loan must be the time between two Transfer Windows, Standard Loans can be for half a Season or a full Season. Any recall clause requiring the early termination of a Standard Loan can only be included in a full Season Standard Loan and this can only be activated during the second (January) Transfer Window. Any other early termination of a Standard Loan must be by way of a mutual agreement in writing (including by way of a recall clause within the Standard Loan Agreement) between both Clubs and the Player but can only be completed after the expiry of 28 days and only during a Transfer Window.

So if we could only loan him for a full season - and could only recall him in January. So Benteke & AN Other get injured in September and we are down to one "specialist" striker until January. Not sure that really works for us.

Interesting.

I still think we'd be OK if Benteke/Sloth got injured considering Wilf/Andros' success up front last season. We also have Ayew now. I'm not sure if many people realise but Schlupp used to be a striker as well.

Wickham clearly needs games so a loan makes sense all round. If we're short (or he's banging them in) bring him back in January.

Kai Kai will almost certainly be loaned out before the end of the month I would think. Not sure Meyer has ever played a striker type role - he has at best been a deepish No 10, and if we ended up with Townsend as a striker it would be truly awful.

Wickham needs time - and probably not full competitive games for at least another month. Sorloth looked good on the extended Sky highlights at Fulham - into good positions, could have got a goal if Kouyate had squared rather than shot, and set up an effort for Wilf with a nice touch. Him and Ayew will be the two strikers on the bench for now, both offering different options, which is what is needed rather than just swapping like for like all the time. Wickham has played a wider role a lot rather than straight through the middle so will also offer something different when fit so I would be surprised if he went on loan.

The players I would expect to leave would be

Innis
Kai Kai
Souare

Possibly one of Reidewald, Williams, Puncheon

Highly unlikely we would go below 22-23 senior players especially with Dann still out and Meyer probably not fully upto speed until early September-ish.

I agree on him needing games - but the U23 have two further games in August and 5 in September, plus the second round of the Carabao Cup later this month so he has a decent set of games (excluding any behind closed doors games arranged with Meyer in mind) over the next 6 weeks. By then, he would probably be ready for the first team bench.

I would be surprised if RH wanted the squad to get reduced too much with loans before the end of the month, and also I would think the club wants to manage CW's re-introduction very carefully to protect an asset that still has 2 years on his contract after all, and is only 25.

Also KaiKai and Williams wont be on huge wages, so if we need to keep them as cover it costs us little.

I'd much rather get Souare off the wage bill with Wickham.
At least Sorlath has played in the last 6 months, Wickham could break at any point.
Get him out on loan quickly and if we manage to bring an upgrade striker in Jan then ping Sorlath out as well.

i'd rather keep Kai Kai as he gives us decent cover as a winger and also keep Punch, he can come on for 20 mins if needed and close out games, he's a smart player, can draw a foul and actually gives a shit about us as a club. We all know he's lost his pace but we shouldnt forget what he did for us and we should give him the opportunity to be back up.

We should only loan out 1 player and keep the rest as our squad size is currently 26 over 21s. Why would we loan out players to reduce the size of the squad?

I agree, what you are saying is highly likely. Iím not saying I want to end up in those situations but we are better off than last season with backups.

I could be making it up but Iím sure I read somewhere when we were talking to Mayer he can play off of a striker, a number 10/free role type thing.

I think we will be willing to loan one from Kaikai, sorloth and wickham I suppose but as wickham isnít currently playing for u23s due another strain Iíd expect not. I think weíd want him to have a few games lasting 90 mins or close to before we consider sending him anywhere and sorloth would surely find more interested clubs as he isnít the risk of break down that wickham is.

You are probably right regarding Kaikai but Iíd prefer to keep him and let sorloth go out. Sorloth needs games and we should take a closer look at Kaikai. Heís shown a maturity and composure recently. Heís also a more natural winger for times we want a more width oriented midfielder and can play the wilf role.

Iíd like: benteke and wilf as first choice then ayew>wickham (if/when fit)>Kaikai>Townsend>Mayer as our options. Of all the players sorloth would benefit the most from a season of games and could develop for us and it will surely only be one out.

I imagine Wickham will get some game time to try and get some value when we sell in Jan. Will prob end up in the Championship.
