More should have been done. But let’s be frank the U.K. and US governments don’t give a shit.

There has been counterrevolution against nearly all the countries that had the Arab Spring. Sisi in Egypt is an even worse despot than Mubarak yet the U.K. and US governments are fine with it. As they are with Saudi Arabia.

Also taking 20,000 refugees was an appallingly low figure.

Hell no, stay the feck out of it. If we go in we'll end up fighting the Russians not just Assad.

Wobbling on at the UN about how awful it is, is fine but actually trying to do something will be disastrous for us. Even if the Yanks go in we should keep out. Although in that case I suppose we'll have to.

No, and just to be clear, no.

We should join the Russian effort in trying to rebuild, with other interested nations.

Where to start though and how do the people live amongst such devastation?

We are not responsible for everyone in the world. If you widen your view you'll find billions of people that would be better of here.

Assad will eventually win and things will go back to normal, I know its a shit sandwich but you have to face reality.

What is the point of further carnage in Ibdil, it can only end in Assad winning with Russian help, that is the end of it.

Russia is at least trying to help get things going again but one look at the buildings will tell you it is a very tall order.

They have appealed for help in this effort I think we should.

We could pour millions in but what would be the upside for the UK, how would it benefit us. I don't see it.
Possibly it would make some people feel warm, comfortable and caring but we'd just be throwing money at Assad's regime and what would be the benefit to us. Only Russia will benefit from money spent on Assad's kingdom.

I don't doubt we will chuck some money in but it'll just be wasted.

Where could we spend it better, there's a whole world out there.

Russia's presence in Syria is nothing altruistic.

There are hardly any democratic forces,

You basically have Assad, Islamists, Kurds and local warlords all fighting each other.

The only half-noble faction is the Kurds. But the Uk said diddly-squat when Turkey imprisoned a UK citizen for 7 years this week for 'the crime' of fighting for the Kurds.

At one point the Free Syrian Army, who wanted democratic elections, controlled two thirds of the country.

They are the UK's weapons sales rivals. Never going to happen.
