In my mind, PVA was at fault for the goal. Simple stuff, really. He just did not track his man for the obvious one-two that was about to happen.

We always look more dangerous when the game is fast paced, but our play has become so slow. And anytime we did play the ball forward the pass was behind the player anyway.

So tedious now. Every season we manage to do this. There’s no passion or desire or drive (blame whoever you want; the manager or the players) but it’s so predictable now - year on year. I just hope the mid season turnaround is equally predictable.

Yep, that was poor and the reason for the sideways passing across the back. You have to give players that have the ball options.

Looked OK in the first half, but unable to do much with the possession. The second half saw us completely out-thought as Nuno Espirito Santo saw our lack of pace in the first half and pushed their back line up 10 metres in the second half and compressed the play and we struggled to break them down. I thought Roy had seen this and was going to put Kouyaté up front to try to run behind the defence as he has a bit of pace, but no - on as a DM..

We are hampered by the like of striking options - Ayew went missing for long periods and offers little more than nuisance value, Sørloth is the only striker who seems to make himself smaller when going for high balls. Hopefully, Benteke will be back after the international break he at least can be a target and brings others into play even if the goals aren't there. Otherwise our drift towards the relegation zone will continue apace given the next few games.

Thought that sideways passing at the back related to strikers who will never win the ball in the air

We was at fault but felt that whoever should have been marking the other player in the triangle that passed it back to the scorer was more to blame.

How does that work then?

What was Sackho(I think) supposed to do, all he could do was ensure the player couldn't turn and shoot, which he did

PVA leaving his man free for the return and following the ball meant he had a fairly simple task one given the ball back

It was a shocking performance & having just heard Roy’s post match comments, I wonder if he can see what is so obvious. The build-up play is so ponderous that any half decent team can defend against it.

Too many ‘off’ performances can’t disguise the fact that tactically we are inept as an attacking force. I’m not even sure that changing personnel would make much of a difference. If we play like that we are going to struggle to score against most teams.

One point but no goals at home! It’s not good enough. Roy needs to change his approach. It’s far too conservative. Wolves are not a good team. Tactically they just out thought us but player for player they are not as good as us. They just get more out of their players.

This system is not bringing the best out of our talents. There’s no creativity in centre midfield. This afternoon nothing of note came in from the wings. It was disastrous.

I expected us to be where Bournemouth are after these opening games. Looking at the fixtures to come, I am extremely worried!
Sums it up well - starting with Schlupp rather than Meyer was a very defensive/conservative decision - maybe right if we were playing Liverpool or Man City but not against Wolves - we are giving the middling teams of this league far too much respect.

I thought Jimmy Mac didn't do too badly today.
Schlupp though... No wonder Leicester fans were pissing themselves when we bought him.
Van Aanholt for me though was just about the worst of a shit bunch.
A Dutch international who can't pass. Who'd have thought it.

I think everyone has said it really, rubbish. What are are attacking tactics. I really have no idea. No one wants to try for goal, no pattern to our attack.

Sako MOM for me. Meyer introduced some zest to plodding passing, and lack of desire to attack with any pace.

A little surprised by the votes for awb I thought today (as with most of the home games this term) highlighted his limitations with the ball.

Agree but add to it the on loan striker what makes us want Benteke back!
