Strange use of the personnel available. Players seem unclear on tactics/formation. No-one stepping up to spark the side. Two-thirds of possession but still lost against limited opposition. Really sloppy passing. Poor subs.

It was England vs Iceland all over again, no?

Henno - 5 (no keeper likes to be beaten at near post but it was smashed at him) side note Rui Patricio hit virtually every player from his kicks
PVA - 4 lots of wayward passes and left Doherty
Luka - 3 passing was poor until last 15 mins

The others couldnít make the system work - 6

MOM - Sakho

I miss D Delaneyís long diagonal passes...itís come to that.
Stop fannying around with the hundreds of passes in our own half while the oppo watch sipping cups of tea.
I miss some of our old strengths - power and directness, speed. V frustrating.

I donít profess to know anywhere near as much about football as Hodgson but, for me, the build up play in the last two games has been painfully slow. Bournemouth dominated the first 10/15 minutes against us but moved the ball quickly in the final third which created openings. We get even slower when we get into the final third which makes it easy for opposition defences to stifle us and stop us creating clear cut chances. If you canít score goals you have to be faultless at the back to even pick up a point. With Zaha not firing we are toothless in attack. We really are a one man team which probably explains why we have played him in the last three games despite him being injured. I still think we will survive this season but more due to some of the other teams being worse than us. I think our squad would suit a five man defence with PVA and AWB playing as wing backs when we have the ball which would mean we could play 3 in central defence (add Dann?) and 3 in central midfield which would solidify the team no end and we could still play 2 up front. Not sure where Townsend would fit into that system though.

Agreed. Wilf & PVA on the same flank is fantastic. By playing Wilf as a striker, both him & PVA are less effective.

Just play Wilf on the wing & play a striker in the middle. Someone, anyone.

Hennessy - 7 , a couple of good saves, could have done better for the goal.
AWB - 7 , solid, lost the ball on occasions but I would put that down to him trying to create something with little movement in front of him.
Sakho - 7.5, class performance.
Tomkins - 6.5, pretty solid with one error I can remember
PVA - 6.5, not bad, had nothing in front of him by way of an outlet.
Townsend - 6, tried, had a decent shot, but nothing really came off.
Luke - 5, terrible passing throughout the game. Is he overrated? Not sure, but has had a slow start to the season.
McArthur - 6, got us forward and battled but his final ball was poor. Better than Luka though.
Schlupp - 3, no comment.
Zaha - 6.5, still our most dangerous player but not at his best.
Ayew - 6, tries hard but not the man to lead the line. Missed a good headed opportunity.

Subs
Sorloth - 4, doesn’t get the minutes but it is pretty clear there is a reason for that. Feel sorry for him, he doesn’t look like he should be playing at this level.
Meyer - 6, tidy player should start, although not sure he is going to make the impact 130k a week should.
Kouyate - 5, added some much needed energy and tried to get forward.

Would have brought on Punch for Schlupp to see if he could have added a spark or lift the crowd but I am not sure Roy is one for sentimentality or Hail Mary type subs.

We need Benteke back and playing before we can add to the squad in January. Play 4-3-3 - Meyer, Kouyate, McArthur, Zaha, Benteke, Townsend as the midfield / attack.

No. England had strikers on the pitch and on the bench v Iceland.

I think we lost today's game back in August when we decided we didn't need to invest in some quality upfront. That decision may well send us down.

Totally agree about the slow, lethargic build up play.
My son and I were saying that exact same thing during the game.
No urgency or hustle.

All that slow build up play is pointless with the players at out disposal, Wolves had every player behind the ball by the time we got in to the final third. So so easy for Wolves to defend.

Right...

Schlupp...what position was he playing? What role did he have? What did he do? What was the point and how did it take so long for him to be dragged off. I couldn’t work out what our shape was with his bizarre positioning. You’d think he was there to help burst into the box. In the second half when Jimmy Mac made a decent run down the left side, it was crying out for Schlupp to make the run outside him. He was about 15 yards behind the ball!

Ayew...he’s not a centre-forward. No presence as a central striker. You can’t give him the ball with his back to goal. You are better off going back to Townsend/Zaha as front two.
Never thought he was going to score today.

Sorloth...another big friendly giant. Too soft. Win a header, man!

Meyer...wasted playing sideways five-yard passes on the halfway line. Get him into the box/final third where the passes hurt defenders. Oppo midfield don’t care about him on the halfway line popping it back and forth. He’s got to create more chances than Schlupp.

Knew from early on the only way we were really going to score would be from a corner or free-kick. And with their size at centre-half that was also going to be tough.

In saying all this, it took Wolves 40 mins to get one of their typical decent passing moves together...although of course they still had the two best chances. The best chance we had to break them down was when they over-committed to leave a few gaps after a failed attack. But we are still depending on Zaha to product a piece of magic just to get clear 50 yards from goal.

I gave Tomkins man of the match but no one deserved it.

Sakho MOM. Final 3rd we havenít a clue. Zaha canít do it all on his own.

We might as well have Bambi up front as a lone striker.

Back to 442 and AWB & PVA counterattacking on the wings for the next 5 games. Maybe things arenít that bad after all?

This was always going to be a tough game as they are so direct and a classy team, even though today they were average by their recent performances. But we are so drained of confidence currently especially at home Four home games NO goals tells its own story, and when Zaha struggles PALACE struggle, we now have Five games coming up which look daunting to say the least and the players cant be feeling confident.
As for today's game, i am a fan of Roy but can't understand his team selection also his negative tactics even though this was one of their off days yet showed them far too much respect and missed the opportunity to grab a much needed win. Why was Meyer left out after his recent impressive performances? it was crying out for his composure, and when we fell behind why was Sorloth not brought on to play alongside Ayew to give the team more impact, that at least would have made us more competitive upfront and helped to show what Ayew and Sorloth could offer as a pairing, if not when we are losing then when. Come on Roy show bravery in your selection and also in your substitutions before the knives start coming out.
There was some disappointing performances by a few today which needs to change and quick, we have some very tough games coming up and somehow we have to stop the rot from setting in.

I have never dished out scores, so being as pissed off as I am, tonight is not the time to start.

I simply can not believe that RH could put out a team to perform so pedestrianly against a team who had no plans to attack us.
My son said he couldnít recall a game where we have had so much of the ball and did absolutely nothing with it.
And Hodgson said on 5Live ďWe created a lot in the first halfĒ the immediate reaction in my car from all of us was ďWTF did we produce?Ē One cross from Wilf that Ayew could have buried and one shot from Schlupp and that is Royís assessment of creating a lot. What a load of bollocks please Roy please donít insult our intelligence.

Can someone tell me what Townsend actually does for this team? And just what position was Wilf playing today because as much as I love him, I have absolutely no idea.

So in conclusion a piss poor team selection, worse tactics, and an attacking performance that mirrored the shit seen under Frank the bore.
Itís a long time since Iíve been so pissed off about everything

Roy picking favourites regardless of form is unsurprising.

Meyer and Kouyate should be starting no matter what formation he intends to play.

Zaha must play on the wing against non top 3 teams. Tear into them. So he can move at them with pace.

Townsend gets away with murder. He’s been rubbish for 18 months barring the odd game.

Defensively we had sod all to do for much of the game and they still contrived to give up multiple chances.

We were lucky that Wolves were shite or that would’ve been embarrassing. I’m expecting us to get battered in one of the upcoming games.

Roy was awful again but it would nice if the players gave a shit. Virtually none of them put in a shift today.

We've had a very fortunate start with our fixtures and we've blown it. Horrible start.

Hennessey - 6 - one very good save. Bizarre that he took the free kick at the end. Another tactical masterstroke from roy.

Bissaka - 7 - the only player to emerge with any credit. Non stop effort. Well done.
PvA - 5 - poor defensively and going forward.
Tomkins - 5 - not too bad
Sakho - 6 - pretty decent

Luka - 5 - poor passing and setpieces.
McArthur - 5 - amazed he started in the cebtre. Apparently undroppable despite recent indifferent performances
Townsend - 3 - he's been shocking in recent weeks. He takes no responsibility from an attacking perspective. Will he ever come close to scoring or doing anything of note creatively? He's now even lowered his workrate which was his saving grace.
Schlupp - 2 - an imposter. Never plays well. A fraud of a player in midfield but a decent left back. Roy picked him over Meyer for a home game. Ridiculous decision.

Wilf - 5 - worst I've seen him play. He's fed up and who can blame him.
Ayew - 4 - another great striker signing. He's a winger - play him on the left or not at all.

Subs
Meyer - 6 - always buzzing around but hard to come in that shambles of a performance
Kouyate - 3 - what was the point of him coming on?
Sorloth - 2 - I keep defending him and I don't think he's getting enough of a chance but he's been poor every time he has come on. Another £10m well spent.

This season has been so poor and we are in big trouble.
