Here is today’s piece of trivia: there is one Trappist monastery in the USA and it has a brewery. Who knew ? Not me until yesterday. It is in Spencer,Massachusetts and they produce a number of ales. I have unselfishly exhaustively researched their Trappist Ale and the IPA. The IPA is OK but nothing special. The Trappist Ale though is really good. It reminds me of Duvel but is not so lethal (this statement may be a bit premature. -ed.). Worth seeking out if you live over here or plan to visit. Now, in the true Trappist spirit, I’ll shut up.
Here’s the website:-

Stocked up at Sainsbury's today as the Christmas beer got in by Mrs Maudling had already been consumed
I was impressed by some of the beers available
I am enjoying a bottle of Old Tom 8.5% dark ale brewed by Robinson's of Stockport
Whilst trying to work out who is the most inept out of arsenal and liverpool

Happy Hoppy Christmas all!

Had a great Christmas beer. Was from To Øl's brewpub here in town called "BRUS" - Its a To Øl / Cloudwater collaboration Imperial stout called "Christmas Cake"

Although a typical strong impy stout with lots of dark sweet roasty malts and chocolate, it also has lots of dark dried fruit and some nice spice into the finish. Almost like liquefied boozy Christmas pudding! Well worth trying if you see it, even if Christmas is now passing us.

Had that one last year on Christmas Day - this year I had the bourbon barrel aged version at 12.5%. Very good beers, and the barrel aged one was like a liquid Christmas cake - delicious!

Once again time for my list of beers drunk during the previous year. As a boring statto this equated to just over 21 units per week which used to mean I was on Government guidelines. I think I am now officialy a drunk. Thank you to Cronx for my 20 litres of Kotchin which is going down nicely and Happy New Year to you all.

I kept a present from Xmas, for tonight. Not sure if it was thoughtful from my wife or just shows my shallowness (erm, he likes beer and football, that's it). And not convinced by some of them but don't want to show ingratitude.

Big Eagle (York Brew Co.)
Little Eagle (as above)
Eagle IPA (Wells)
Eagle (Thwaites I think)
Black Pussy Palace (Tyris, Spain)
Palace Ale (Morrissey)
And to fill up the box, 4 various from Cronx.

First half sorted then.

It's an interesting novelty, combining drinking with running. But its also pretty stupid isn't it? Surely better to do a half-marathon in the morning then enjoy beer and food all afternoon....

Well there have been plenty of these type of events run for a long time. There is marathon de medoc in bdx and Denbies vineyard in UK who both do wine runs. You can choose to run and ignore then get stuck in at the end, or you can choose to walk/jog and have a bit as you go around. They are move fun events than out and out runs
