With two days left I’d actually have let Foakes get to his 50 without holing out and Jennings 150.

We had enough runs an hour ago. (Fingers crossed).

I suspect Curran went out to bat in his fielding whites. Takes a bit longer to get ready to keep wicket and Foakes may have wanted/needed a shower. He was the last England player on to the field as it was.

Good innings to be fair.
Maybe it'll become a case of horses for courses. If he's our best batsman against Spin then use him accordingly. There is another batsman useless against spin who'd play better against pace.

Root's mind works in mysterious ways, I did think he would let Jennings score 150.

Potentially, you could argue it sets Jennings a bit of a challenge and a message to the team.

Jennings still has a lot to do establish himself, and he needs to keep striving to earn the big scores and accolades, and that right now, England haven’t won enough matches abroad, so maybe lets focus let on the personal achievements and do what is needed to win the match.

Sorry, no time for sentimentality in that scenario. If he was on 198 I’d agree.

We’ve got to change our mentality. We’re here to win test matches

Although on that basis neither of us gets a game.

Im taking the ECB umpires course this winter as I fear my playing days may be numbered.

Guaranteed if it was Root he'd have played for the 150 though.

Given his habit of getting out with a century there for the taking, I don't think landmarks can be that important to him

Good luck! Develop a Billy Bowden-style affectation to get yourself noticed.

Just catching up on the first two days’ highlights. Jack Leach walks like David Warner when he’s batting. He’s even got the tash. I’ve no doubt that’s where the similarities end.

Good luck; I've reached the stage where I'm trying to decide whether I should take up umpiring or scoring. As scorer you get to sit down all day, but umpires get first dibs on teas so a difficult choice!

Also umpires get more money as expenses compared to scorers
