1 week in and still no Striker , Surly this time next week we'll have our man ? Roy has dug us out of a massive hole with almost nothing upfront ( except for Zaha ) , The board have just got to back him and get a striker .

I see 2 clubs have agreed to pay Naismith his 10k a week wages if he joins them on loan. Seems high for a player who has not made a single appearance this season.

I see Ryan Fredericks is potentially available for £3m as he is out of contract in the summer. Rated as one of the best right backs in the championship. Could sign him and then that would free up TFM to be fourth choice centre back (he has played there for Man U and was actually signed to play there). We face the prospect of not having a recognised RB at the start of next season with TFM going back and ward out of contract. Would be a good opportunity to get someone in at a reasonable price.

I really do not understand why things don't get done early on. The point of a transfer window in the middle of a season is to get people in for the rest of the season to help the team.

It's not the Palace way. The Palace way is to wait and wait until somebody falls in your lap

Sounds like Roy is getting frustrated and is basically saying to the board to get a move on! I still don't understand how we are still looking for targets, shouldn't this be done pre-January so we can get on with trying to get these players! If Roy doesn't like their targets then we are just wasting and losing valuable time! |

so Roy said we now need 6 players. Assume:
GK CB (dann replacement) CM (punch replacement) Winger Striker x 2?

the players we can afford only commit at the end of the window when all their options are on the table, see Barcelona paying well over the odds for courtiniho(sp), and unless we are prepared to do that cant see much happening before months end.
would like to see a cheeky bid for Okazaki at Leicester, think he could drop straight into our front line. |

The Transfer window

He was making a hypothetical point - I.e that we were always after 3-4 and now we had further long term injuries. Roy will be delighted with 3 signings I’m sure. |

i get that, but looking at the above list of 6 you could argue we very much do need all 6. If we sign 3 we're still way too thin if we get any further injuries, which seems a general issue with this squad. I'd be more than happy with 4

Burnley may be too soon, but it will be disappointing if we don't get at least one through the door before Arsenal

His frustration is with the injuries! He’s said they’ve been planning for this window for ages and wanted three players but to emphasise how bad the injuries have been they could really be looking for 6! He’s frustrated at the constant ans unbelievable string of injuries we’re getting, not the board. He’s never even hinted in his time at palace that he’s remotely frustrated with the club regarding transfers. You are, we all are at times but you’re projecting your frustrations on to Roy ans making his words fit. That’s not what he’s said at all. Not yet anyway For the record I expect we wanted three ans will try to get 4. We won’t try and replace everyone who’s injured Striker, center back, goalkeeper and midfielder in that order

In a back handed way losing to Brighton might help long term even parish must have seen some of our fringe players are not reAly up to premier league standard hurts me to say but the Brighton players who were brought in looked much better. We have got a good 13 14 outfield players after that there's not a lot Roy can work with the injurys are killing us as well.need to get in at least 4 or 5 players who can be picked for a prem match and do a job at that level.

I can see this getting very tense. Here is the thing, as we always know, most deals get done near the end of the window, whether that is the right thing to do or not. So far, bar Tosun, the only deals that have been done, most likely started being planned in the summer(Coutinho, Van Dijk). The fact we have done no business yet is no real surprise and I imagine clubs are trying to hold us to ransom for as much cash as they can. Son in a lot of ways, panicking is just silly right now.
HOWEVER. Here is the problem that will be driving a lot of us nuts. Under Pardew we all became blinded that this squad was better than it was, so we only added a few players to it. Last season we realised that actually, it really isn't. We went into last summer needing a massive overhaul, we all knew it and I swear Big Sam did too, and would put money on he left because there would not be the money to do the necessary rebuild. The only business we actually did were two loans and one permanent player. We needed a keeper, didn't get one. We needed a striker or two, didn't get any. We have no replacement for Wilf or Townsend, very few options at right back and no real replacement for Luka. We left it all to the last minute and ballsed up big time. Roy has come in and until injuries forced his hand, was only really using 12-13 players because the rest just aren't good enough either currently, or anymore. No injuries are hammering us, our desperation has grown even worse. We need six wins to survive, but Roy is running out of players to achieve that with. Our results over xmas probably calmed the possible storm. But soon people are going to get very vocal. Dougie has been hired to sort out transfers. He has known that a minimum strikers and a keeper were required since September 1st. I believe at some private Q&A he implied there would be deals done swiftly. Nine days in and nothing has happened. The only real mention is Guaita, but then there is rumour that we have delayed and allowed Watford to steal in. Of course, no on really knows, but if he signs for Watford, that is what everyone will now think happened. Parish, for all his good work, messed up massively in the summer and Roy has so far bailed him out. But if we don't back Roy well this month, this place will go into meltdown. |
