No he was not even the first £100,000 player which I assume you meant. Bill Nicholson did not want it as a millstone so settled the fee with Milan at £99,999 and some shiilings and pence.

Get well soon Jimmy. Great goalscorer in any era. A man who fought alcoholism and came out the other side

The ultimate goal poacher. Seldom scored from outside the 6 yard box and hardly ever with his head ,although remember he did on match of the day once. A funny guy as well . There was a doco done on him once about his fight with alcohol and how it nearly ruined his marriage. Finished with him giving an award at the Bell Whisky player of the year ward, His opening line was '' What the hell am I doing giving awards for Bells Whisky''.
Get well so Jim mould got broken a long time ago. |

I think you are being a bit harsh there. Looking at the video clip he scored a variety of goals and I know this only contains a small selection but there are few tap-ins. It would be interesting to see some full analysis but I agree most of us who saw him would remember him as the ultimate goal poacher.

Best wishes Jimmy. Amazing player. As a kid I was lucky enough to see him knock five passed a great Wolves side packed with Internationals. Jimmy was only about seventeen or so at the time. My favourite non Palace player at the time

Muller shared a lot in common with Greaves actually - both were "fox in the box" scorers, both retired rather young from international football, both were smaller players who excelled at turning with the ball and finding space and each is unquestionably the leading scorer of his generation. (Muller's career was starting as Greaves' was running down.) Get well soon, JG.

Spent a memorable day in his company about 4 years ago on a golf day in Essex. He was still quick witted and a funny man. Hoping he pulls through. A true footballing legend

When Jimmy was down on his luck after his glory days finished my mate shared a house with him and couple of others - imagine that nowadays for ex Prem stars....one night he saw a naked Jimmy in the garden clutching at the air and leaping....
When he saw him the next morning Jimmy said he thought he saw fairies and wanted to catch them. Legend and a lovely bloke my mate said. |

You don't think losing 9 (nine) - 0 was worthy of having the piss taken out of?

That Wolves side included Billy Wright( England captain) who had an impeccable record for sportsmanship who resorted to constant fouling because he was made to struggle so much by Jimmy.
