Clubs need an ethos and an identity , forest , Charlton , Leeds etc lost theirs and look what's happened to them.
I'm talking about the team of the 80s, Venables' side that was nurtured by Big Mal.
There is no strategic unity between Coppell's team and this one under Sam and Pulis, which I guess is what you mean. Where were these wingers everyone talks about? It was two banks of four and hig man / small man up front, like most English teams at the time. If one of the wide midfielders had licence to attack, the other had to sit and if we were away, not even that.

The point someone else made was if parish appoints de boer for change he has to back him or it's pointless. That's absolutely right. They would have discussed and I've no doubt parish is giving Frank everything Frank said he needed to make it work and sign. We'll have to see by the end of the window how that goes.

You turned it into a personal attack on parish and implied he doesn't back managers with decent players or the players they want. I simply pointed out that was bullshit.

A personal attack in that context can be nothing other than your personal agenda and that's bollocks

But you have your personal agenda which is to claim that Parish backs his managers and to suggest otherwise is 'bullshit'. Despite the fact that so far FDB hasn't been backed. You then claim that Parish is giving FDB everything he wanted. Despite not knowing this to be the case at all.

What evidence do you have that FdB hasn't been backed?

Not really. I'm saying parish has backed his managers since he got here. Within what's possible his managers have all spent the money. You may not like some of the players but ultimately it's always been the managers choice. To claim otherwise is bullshit. It is!

I said I'm confident parish is giving frank everything he said he would and I am. The first window for frank isn't closed yet and I'm sure plenty is going on in the background. Other people are claiming parish isn't backing frank despite the fact the first window isn't closed yet, frank has said noting to this effect and their is nothing anywhere to suggest he hasn't. They have the agenda, I don't. I'm simply pointing out that those claims are unfounded and the reasons why I think that! Not the same as having an agenda myself

FDB undoubtedly was told at interview that a lot of funds not available this Summer and his appeal to SP was , his name as a coach at Ajax, his statement that he would develop youth and a new style of play without having to necessarily spend big now.

Hard to pull this off in the Premiership and given our existing squad

Yep this is a mistake many are making. There is plenty money available IF the right players become available.

The restriction is the lack of good players for sale at the right price not our ability to find funds. This tends to change, of course, as we get closer to the end of the window.

But we need those for January when the window re-opens & pure panic sets in!

Exactly. So many people here spouting personal views dressed as facts.

No one knows for sure how much money is available, what players are truly being targeted, whether FdB is being 'backed' by Parish or even what FdB intends tactically for the season. We should give it until the window closes and until November before we opine too confidently as to these varied questions. I have concerns like everyone but am willing to see how this plays out for at least a little while. I can't believe the stress and vitriol given we are one game into the season and two weeks of the window remains.

It's that period in the transfer window where normally if a deal hasn't been done yet then selling clubs are pushing it to the deadline day and see if they can get a better deal. I wouldn't expect much activity until the death unless a club want to free up funds.

How do you know this?

You are saying it and claiming that it's undoubtably the case because your instinct, as with many on here, is always to back Parish.

I remember FDB in his first press conference citing the possibility of spending money as being a reason to come to the Premier League.

A number of teams haven't done much business yet. Once some of the bigger transfers go through, there will be a trickle down effect and things will start happening.

Parish has done some good for the club but he is not against being criticized. The way some of you defend him is as if he is your best friend. He may have bought you a drink at the cup final but it dosnt make you his friend.

I'm with you on that one doc, he has 85% approval rating.

In all honesty, he's got a free pass for tomorrow, but there will be major discontent should we get thumped by Swansea.

He hasn't got a free pass from me. He has the players available to do a number on Liverpool even without Wilf. If he cannot use them properly then there's no excuses.
