Ski hazlenut yoghurts delivered by the milkman on Saturdays.

Skipping Sunday school at church and spending the change on comics, only forced to go so parents could get some nookie.

Saturday morning cinema.

Going to swimming baths with your mates, no adults - and lidos.

Crackling in chip shops.

Really good kids TV.

Stealing matchbox cars, and Enid Blyton books from Boots and WH Smiths / not sure I got the moral message. Even after my Dad picked me up from the cop shop. I got given pocket money after that family embarrassment, so crime does pay - another good moral lesson.

Packed lunches.

Cocles and winkles for Sunday tea.

Family holidays where a chalet in Leysdown and the Villa Club there being seen as great.

Scampi in a Basket and some cover band doing the classics like Tie a Yellow Ribbon, and the Hokey Kokey.

One armed bandits. Penny arcades.

Spam fritters.

Dripping on toast.

Galloways cough medicine.

West Indian limes, pear drops, Cola Cubes, humbugs and the like.

Mum sending you down the shop to buy 10 Sovereign.

Cream Soda and Tizer and later Quatro.

After dinner chocalate mints being the height of taste.

Going to the second hand magazine shops, and looking longingly at the back of the shop where the pornos were, one across the road from Ladywell Baths. I found one such shop in Santiago recently.

Sweet cigarettes. Violets.

US bubblegum that had adverts for stuff like XRay specs.

Being excited buying the Christmas edition of Radio Times.

Listening to late night talk radio, And listing to the top forty.

Stag beetles.

Conkers and marbles.

British Bulldog.

Jublies.

Walking to and from primary school on your own.

In the summer, being chucked out of the house and not being expected to be back until tea time. And seemingly finding lots of fun things to do.

Taking the bus out to Farnborough.

Being excited when your Dad decides to drive past the Spitfires on the way to the cousins in New Addington.

In the car with pop and crisps.

How exciting Space Invader machines were when you found one in a pub / especially table top.

Getting served at 15, 16.

Kiddie fiddlers just being seen as dirty old men. Had a couple of brushes with those.

Generally, bath time just being Sundays.

Soda stream and Nesquick.

Rabbit stew, marrow, very young chicken in jelly in a can, lunch tongue, crab paste, wagon wheels etc.

How common were ritz crackers, twiglets, peak freens (sp), advocatt, cinzano, camp coffee and chicory, fray bentos, spam, corned beef, John West salmon, kippers, walls bangers and chipolatas, licorice, mints - polo, extra strong, fishermen friends, trebor, ovaltine, horlicks, ready brek etc..

Reading as kid - obsessively. Including Asterix, Tin Tin, Lucky Luke, Famous Five, Tolkien, Narnia, Secret Seven.

Good pop music (or at least memorable).

Good films where Hollywood Blockbuster meant something. I think Jurassic Park might have been the last good one of this type.

Great comics.

Latin taught in school.

Cross country when the pitches were too frozen or muddy to play football or rugby. If really bad back into the gym to climb the wooden frames, ropes or vaults - bloody terrifying. Our PE teachers were twats.

Butlins, Pontins type family holidays and how great they were.

London Bus beanos to the seaside / might have helped that my uncle drove out of Thornton Heath garage.

Are the Boxing Day sales still a newsworthy thing. As in, do the news programmes go on about someone queueing for two days over Christmas for the one telly they are almost giving away?

Plus, what about the millionth customer stuff, having 2 minutes to run around a supermarket and fill your trolley.

And, and, and, market traders selling whole crockery sets and the like. I am not asking for 20 quid, not even 10 quid, who will give me a fiver....

Great thread!

Golden Nuggets - not the current poor impersonator but the original one with huge chunks of honey and sugar coated loveliness, perfectly accompanied by the cream from the top of the gold top milk which I had rushed down to get from the doorstep before anyone else could get their hands on it.

Sorry I think I got the wrong end of the stick

OK Silver top milk with about 1/4 pint of cream on the top. Lush.

That weird picture of a girl playing noughts and crosses with a doll whe the TV shut down randomly during the day. I used to get hypnotised by this for hours as a toddler apparently.

Watching Eurotrash and/or Hammer Horror films late on BBC1 as the only conceivable hope of seeing some boobs on terrestrial TV in the early 90s.
