Best team ever how many games played?

Interesting article on the beeb today about the legendary teams, who in fact, never or rarely played together.

For me our best ever team, not individuals, but first XI was the 90/91 below

Martyn
Humphrey
Shaw
Gray
Young
Thorn
Salako
Thomas
Wright
Bright
McGoldrick

But how many games did that eleven start? Pardew and Barber occasionally played as did Gary Thompson and Glyn Hodges.

Young/Humphrey were the last to sign out of that crop in the summer of 1990, and Wright was the first to depart in September 91'. so you're looking at just over a year together. Thompson/Hodges started the first few games of the 90/91 campaign and back then the first division had 20 clubs. Including the 8 games Wright played for us in 91/92 before being sold, I'd hazard at a guess at 24-28 games.

Had a look through the history books.

That eleven started 18 times together in total

11 league games, 3 cup games in 90/91 plus 4 league games in 91/92

Wouldn't surprise me if that 18 games was not only our greatest team but also one of the highest totals of any specific XI.

A key reason for the success of that team was the continuity. Would be interested in how many games that 1-10 played together - it was generally only the No.11 that changed (Pardew and Barber had a few appearances)

Cheers CH. How many games did they win out of those 18 out of interest?

The team of 78/79 would have beaten that for sure. A number of the players played in 39, 40 or 41 of the games. Most played over 30.
