I actually have to admit that I believe that is a very poor song from Paul, easily his worst Beatle track ever, on a par with John's Revolution Number 9.

Both are on the incredible "White Album"

The major reason that the latest stuff will "fly of the shelves" is the sheer talent of the group , and that will not diminish for as long as people listen to music.
Bearing in mind half their management was homosexual and the Beatles all took drugs, bearing in mind your moral standpoints on these issues, isn't it rather hypocritical on your part Mr Boy to be so supportive of The Beatles?

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding the passage above, the sonic issue as a whole is akin to being a wine buff. I'm not massively into wine, but I work with people who are - and I'm sure most people can't pick up all the minute differences which experts claim exist between two bottles of equally drinkable plonk. I certainly can't.

You probably need a trained ear and decent hi-fi components to register a meaningful difference with the remasters.

Yes, this is such a stupid argument that Beatles-haters make. Such people are literally ignorant - they have no idea that the charts in the early 1960s consisted almost entirely of twee Tin Pan Alley bubblegum shite. Rock & roll had truly been emasculated by that stage - that's why the Beatles really shook things up: they were so different. If they wouldn't stand out now, it's because so much of today's music has been shaped by what the Beatles (and others) pionneered.

You might as well say Einstein wouldn't stand out in physics today. Doesn't mean he wasn't a genius 100 years ago.

Bollocks. The old bluesmasters like Sonny Boy Williamson and John Lee Hooker were recording plenty of groundbreaking stuff whilst the Beatles were still stealing hubcaps in Toxteth.

Well yes. What the Beatles, or their management at least, did was commercialise it and bring it to a mass market. They were talented lads, but in many ways were the Take That of their generation.

And I reckon Einstein would still stand out as a genius today, or indeed at any time. Because he was.

Harrison was talented. Lennon had his moments. The other two are a pair of twats who could have been replaced with any session musicians and it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference. I also find that on the whole McCartney is a shit songwriter who writes utter drivel and offensive ballads.

So, McCartney = Williams.
Lennon = Barlow.

I wouldn't say they're that bad. Put it this way, if I was given the choice to either kill McCartney and Ringo or just seriously injure Barlow and Williams I would go for the latter.

Remind me how much of that music made the charts in the U.K.? (Or indeed, the U.S.A.?) The Beatles and others took rhythm & blues and soul music, sold it to British white kids (and sold it back to America) in the form of cover versions, and then went on to develop something new which has informed guitar-based music ever since.

These are facts. It's not necessary to like the Beatles to acknowledge their influence.

Appealing to the likes of Sexyrazor (sorry darlin') does not mean that you have musical talent. In fact it generally means you haven't.

That reply has nothing to do with my post, and not knowing Sexyrazor it's nothing I can comment on anyway!

Ah the old "The Beatles made it commercial" argument.

They were a two bob boy band, riding on the back of others talent.
